IMAI ALLIANCE CONTINUES TO SUPPORT THE SCALE UP OF THE QUICK CHECK+ PROGRAMME WITH A FOCUS ON SEVERE ACUTE RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS (SARI), SPECIFICALLY THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. IN THIS FY, THE ALLIANCE CONTINUED TO COLLABORATE WITH WHO SEARO TO ADAPT THE CLINICAL TRAINING TOOLS FOR THE COUNTRIES OF MYANMAR AND TIMOR-LESTE AND PROVIDED REMOTE TRAINING OF TRAINERS TO SENIOR DOCTORS THERE AND COX'S BAZAR, BANGLADESH. IN 2021, THE ALLIANCE CONDUCTED A VIRTUAL SEARO SARI/COVID-19 CLINICAL MANAGEMENT TRAINING TO A CORE GROUP OF SENIOR CLINICIANS FROM SEAR MEMBER STATES OF BANGLADESH, BHUTAN, INDONESIA, MALDIVES, NEPAL, SRI LANKA, AND TIMOR-LESTE FROM FEBRUARY TO JUNE WITH A COURSE REVIEW IN SEPTEMBER. THE REGIONALLY ADAPTED SEARO IMAI DISTRICT CLINICIAN MANUAL AND QUICK CHECK+ TRAINING TOOLS WERE COMPLETED; THESE BECAME THE REGIONAL CURRICULA FOR TRAINING IN SARI CASE MANAGEMENT. THE IMAI SURVEY ON OXYGEN RESOURCES IN HOSPITALS WAS UPDATED AND EXPANDED WITH SEARO TECHNICAL STAFF AND PROVIDED TO SEAR COUNTRIES.
WITH THE IMMENSE SURGE OF COVID-19 CASES IN INDIA AND LACK OF ADEQUATE SUPPLIES AND HOSPITAL CAPACITY, THE ALLIANCE COLLABORATED WITH CARE NEW ENGLAND HOSPITAL SYSTEM (US) AND CLINICIANS IN INDIA TO CONNECT THE TRANSPORT OF AVAILABLE SUPPLIES FROM THE US TO DISTRICT AND RURAL HOSPITALS IN NEED IN MULTIPLE STATES IN INDIA. AS PART OF THIS EFFORT, THE ALLIANCE WORKED WITH LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL CLINICIANS AS WELL AS THE UCSF OPEN CRITICAL CARE GROUP TO DEVELOP QUICK COVID-19 GUIDANCE FOR MAKESHIFT HOSPITALS IN A SIMPLE POSTER IN SEVERAL LANGUAGES (HINDI, TELEGU, TAMIL, PANJABI, AND NEPALI) (HTTPS://WWW.IMAIALLIANCE.ORG/).
THE ALLIANCE CONTINUED TO REMOTELY MONITOR NCD IMPLEMENTATION IN UGANDA AND SUPPORT THE FINAL STEPS TO MAKE THE UGANDA GUIDELINES FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF NON-COMMUNICATION DISEASE, PRODUCED COLLABORATIVELY BY THE MOH, ALLIANCE AND WALIMU, WAS MADE OFFICIAL NATIONAL GUIDELINE BY SIGNATURE OF THE DIRECTOR GENERAL OF THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH IN MAY 2021.
