THE DISTRIBUTED WIND ENERGY ASSOCIATION IS A COLLABORATIVE GROUP COMPRISED OF MANUFACTURERS, DISTRIBUTORS, PROJECT DEVELOPERS, DEALERS, INSTALLERS AND ADVOCATES WHOSE PRIMARY MISSION IS TO PROMOTE AND FOSTER ALL ASPECTS OF THE US DISTRIBUTED WIND ENERGY INDUSTRY.

POLICY SUPPORT - ADVOCATE AND DEAL WITH POLICY AND MARKET MATTERS THAT ARE AFFECTED OR FUNDED BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, INCLUDING THE CONGRESS AND THE ADMINISTRATION, AS WELL AS KEY STATE MARKETS. THESE AREAS OF INTEREST INCLUDE ALL TYPES OF FEDERAL INCENTIVES, BARRIERS, RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT, FEDERAL DISTRIBUTED WIND APPLICATIONS AND MARKETS, AND FOREIGN ASSISTANCE, AS WELL AS ADDRESSING POLICY AND MARKET MATTERS THAT ARE AFFECTED OR FUNDED BY STATE GOVERNMENTS.
EDUCATION - EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH - EDUCATE THE PUBLIC AND CONSUMER ON DISTRIBUTED WIND ENERGY. DWEA HAS MAINTAINED ITS WEBSITE AND DEVELOPED OTHER PRODUCTS TO ACCOMPLISH EDUCATION GOALS. DWEA EXHIBITED AT SEVERAL FARM SHOWS TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ON THE BENEFITS OF DISTRIBUTED WIND. FINALLY, DWEA HELD AN EVENT IN WASHINGTON DC TO PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL CONTENT TO ITS MEMBERS AND OTHER INTERESTED PARTICIPANTS.
WIND FOR SCHOOLS - IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY AND THE NATIONAL RENEWABLE ENERGY LABORATORY, DWEA IS CREATING A SUSTAINABLE PROGRAM FOR THE WIND FOR SCHOOLS (WFS) PROGRAM TO ADDRESS THE NEED TO EDUCATE THE NEXT GENERATION OF WIND WORKERS. TWELVE UNIVERSITY-BASED WIND APPLICATION CENTERS ARE ESTABLISHED TO ENGAGE COLLEGE STUDENTS BY HAVING THEM CONDUCT CLASSROOM STUDIES, FIELD ASSESSMENTS, AND INSTALLATIONS OF SMALL WIND TURBINES AT RURAL SCHOOLS. ADDITIONALLY, THESE CENTERS ENGAGE IN TEACHER TRAINING, COLLABORATED WITH KIDWIND CHALLENGES, AND EVALUATED DATA FROM THE INSTALLED TURBINES. TO DATE, MORE THAN 350 TURBINES (MORE THAN 40% OF WHICH ARE DIRECTLY ATTRIBUTABLE TO THE WFS PROGRAM) HAVE BEEN INSTALLED AT SCHOOLS.
