Part 3 - Line 4a
THE ACORN AND SAPLING TRAINING PROGRAMS INCLUDED OFFSHORE, INSHORE, AND HIGH PERFORMANCE SESSIONS. THE WINTER TRAINING IN THE SAPLING APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM, WINTER SAPLING PROGRAM SAW CONSIDERABLE PROJECTS UNDERTAKEN. IN BETWEEN THAT WORK, TEAMS TRAVELED TO MIXED PLUS REGATTAS IN FLORIDA. THIS IS A TREND THAT OAKCLIFF STRONGLY SUPPORTS WHERE AT LEAST 50% OF THE SAILORS ARE WOMEN. OF NOTE WAS THAT A LEGENDARY 12METER, COURAGEOUS WAS MADE AVAILABLE TO OAKCLIFF. OAKCLIFF PROGRAMMED IT WITH A DIVERSE TEAM OF SAILORS. THIS TEAM IMPRESSED AN INTERNATIONAL FLEET AT THE 12 METRE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN NEWPORT RHODE ISLAND.
OFFSHORE COMPETITION: THE NUMBERS OF TRAINEES STARTED TO BOUNCE BACK AND SPECIFICALLY THE FINAL OFFSHORE SESSION OF THE SUMMER, THE VINEYARD RACE, WAS FULLY BOOKED. OC86 WAS SAILED IN MULTIPLE REGATTAS INTRODUCING 24 PEOPLE AT A TIME TO MAXI BOAT FLEET RACING. IN THE BEGINNING OF THE SEASON, TWO OAKCLIFF FARR 40S COMPLETED THE ANNAPOLIS TO NEWPORT RACE, WITH ONE ON THE PODIUM. THE RACE CONDITIONS WERE SO HARSH THAT HALF OF THE FLEET DROPPED OUT BUT OAKCLIFF PERSEVERED. OAKCLIFF ALSO RACED BOTH MACKINAC RACES AND HARBOR SPRINGS ON THE GREAT LAKES AND FINISHED 2ND IN THE CHICAGO MACKINAC. CONTINUING WITH THE EXTREME CONDITIONS OF THE SUMMER, OC86 RACED IN THE IDA LEWIS RACE, REACHING SPEEDS OF 25+ KNOTS AND CLAIMED LINE HONORS.
INTERNATIONAL TRAINING & EVENTS: OAKCLIFF HOSTED 14 GRADED MATCH RACE EVENTS AND THE TRIPLE CROWN SERIES. THE TRIPLE CROWN IS TO SUPPORT OLYMPIC HOPEFULS AND PROVIDE DIRECT ATHLETE SUPPORT THAT US SAILING OAKCLIFF ADDED THE ILCA 6 AND ILCA 7 FLEETS. THIS MEANS THAT OAKCIFF HAS SURPASSED ANY OTHER PLACE, INCLUDING THE NATIONAL GOVERNING BODY ("NGB") IN TRAINING OPPORTUNITES AND SUPPORT OF OLYMPIC ATHLETES. ADDITIONALLY, OAKCLIFF CONTINUES TO RUN MORE MATCH RACING THAN ANYONE ELSE IN THE WORLD AND AS A RESULT AMERICAN SAILORS HAVE RISEN TO THE TOP OF THE INTERNATIONAL MATCH RACING RANKINGS.
