DOWNCITY DESIGN OFFERS FREE PROGRAMS THAT HELP RESIDENTS GAIN SKILLS WHILE STRENGHTENING THEIR COMMUNITIES, THROUGH THE CREATION OF SERVICE PROJECTS THAT HARNESS THE CREATION POWER OF DESIGN.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
DOWNCITY DESIGN PROVIDED FREE IN-SCHOOL, AFTER SCHOOL, AND SUMMER DESIGN EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR OVER 250 YOUTH IN 2021/2022. OUR PROGRAMS HELPED STUDENTS CONNECT TO ONE ANOTHER, TO CARING ADULTS, AND TO MEANINGFUL SERVICE WORK. STUDENTS DESIGNED AND FABRICATED 6 NEW AMENITIES FOR COMMUNITY CLIENTS INCLUDING PROVIDENCE PUCLIC LIBRARY, WEST END RECREACTION CENTER, WEST ELMWOOD HOUSING, SACKETT STREET RECREACTION CENTER, MOVEMENT EDUCATION OUTDOORS, AND THE STEEL YEARD. OUR PROGRAMS HELP TO DEVELOP STUDENTS' CRITICAL THINKING, CREATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING, AND STEAM SKILLS, CRUCIAL SKILLS FOR SUCCESS IN SCHOOL AND IN LIFE BEYOND.
