BRIGHTSIDE THEATRE (BST) WAS GRANTED 501(C)(3) STATUS ON NOVEMBER 20, 2009 AND BEGAN PROGRAMMING IN 2011 WITH A UNIQUE BLEND OF AWARD-WINNING PLAYS AND MUSICALS, PREMIERES, MODERN WORKS, AND TIMELESS CLASSICS MEANT TO REFLECT UPON AND INFORM OUR COMMUNITY. AS THE ONLY PROFESSIONAL NONPROFIT THEATRE COMPANY IN NAPERVILLE, BST MAINTAINS A UNIQUE PLACE IN THE ARTISTIC LANDSCAPE OF CHICAGO'S WESTERN SUBURBS. WE PROUDLY PRODUCE SHOWS ON AN INTIMATE SCALE WHILE PROVIDING COMPREHENSIVE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS FOR LOCAL YOUTH.BST TEMPORARILY CLOSED ITS DOORS ON MARCH 13, 2020, AND WHILE WE HAVEN'T YET RETURNED TO INDOOR PERFORMANCES, WE ARE PROUD TO HAVE FOUND NEW WAYS TO SERVE OUR COMMUNITY SAFELY DURING THE PANDEMIC.IN ADDITION TO OFFERING NEW ONLINE CLASSES FOR YOUTH IN TOPICS SUCH AS STAGE MANAGEMENT, STORYTELLING, AND CHOREOGRAPHY, IN SPRING 2021 WE PRODUCED OUR FIRST-EVER ONLINE YOUTH PRODUCTION, LEFT TO OUR OWN DEVICES, WHICH INCLUDED PERFORMANCES BY 10 LOCAL YOUTH AND HAS GARNERED NEARLY 900 VIEWS. IN SUMMER 2021, BST ALSO INTRODUCED OUTDOOR YOUTH SUMMER CAMPS FOR THE FIRST TIME.THESE POPULAR CAMPS WERE HELD IN TWO LOCATIONS: FRONTIER PARK IN NAPERVILLE, AND DOWNERS GROVE SWIM AND RACQUET CLUB. THE CAMPS OFFERED 40 CHILDREN THE OPPORTUNITY TO PERFORM AN OUTDOOR, SOCIALLY DISTANCED PRODUCTION OF ANNIE, JR. FOR FAMILY AND FRIENDS. FINALLY, THIS YEAR WE PRODUCED OUR INAUGURAL SUMMER IN THE PARKS SERIES, THE MUSIC OF RODGERS AND HAMMERSTEIN, A SOCIALLY DISTANCED MUSICAL REVUE. THIS FREE COMMUNITY EVENT, PERFORMED AT WAGNER PAVILION IN NAPERVILLE, PROVIDED THE OPPORTUNITY FOR PATRONS TO ENJOY AN EVENING OF BELOVED BROADWAY MUSIC UNDER THE STARS. THE SHOW PERFORMED TWICE (A THIRD SCHEDULED PERFORMANCE WAS CANCELED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER) AND WAS ATTENDED BY AN ALL-AGES AUDIENCE OF MORE THAN 800. THE REVUE WAS ALSO SCHEDULED TO BE PERFORMED AT THE DUPAGE COMMUNITY ARTS FESTIVAL ON SEPTEMBER 26 AS PART OF ARTS DUPAGE (CANCELLED DUE TO COVID).BST IS PROUD TO HAVE PIVOTED TO PROVIDE ONLINE AND SOCIALLY-DISTANCED OPPORTUNITIES FOR CULTURAL ENGAGEMENT FOR OUR COMMUNITY DURING THIS UNPRECEDENTED TIME, AND WE AIM TO CONTINUE THESE PROGRAMS IN SUBSEQUENT YEARS. BST'S CULTURE OF FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY HAS ENABLED US TO WEATHER THE GLOBAL CRISIS WITHOUT IMMEDIATE CONCERNS FOR BST'S SOLVENCY.

BST WAS RECENTLY HONORED WITH NAPERVILLE MAGAZINE'S AWARD FOR BEST ENTERTAINMENT VENUE FOR THE 4TH YEAR IN A ROW. WE RECEIVED 11 LOU AWARD NOMINATIONS, AND ULTIMATELY THREE AWARDS, IN 2020 FOR EXCELLENCE IN THEATRE IN CHICAGO'S NORTH AND NORTHWEST SUBURBS, MAKING BST'S A CHRISTMAS CAROL THE MOST NOMINATED SHOW IN THE REGION. BST TYPICALLY SERVES AN AUDIENCE OF MORE THAN 5,200 PATRONS ANNUALLY. ADDITIONALLY, WE ARE PROUD TO BE THE LARGEST CONSISTENT NONPROFIT EMPLOYER OF LOCAL ARTISTS IN THE NAPERVILLE AREA.BST RETURNED TO THE STAGE AT NORTH CENTRAL COLLEGE IN DECEMBER 2021 WITH MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET: A MUSICAL RADIO PLAY. IN JANUARY 2022, WE PRODUCED PROMISES,PROMISES, THE SECOND PRODUCTION IN OUR POPULAR CONCERT SERIES. WE CELEBRATED OUR TENTH ANNIVERSARY IN FEBRUARY AND MARCH WITH DON'T DRESS FOR DINNER. DON'T DRESS RECEIVED A LOU RECOMMENDATION AND WAS AWARDED BEST PLAY. ALSO IN FEBRUARY WAS OUR BST YOUTH PRODUCTION, DISNEY'S THE DESCENDANTS. THE PRODUCTION INCLUDED EXPANDED ACCESSIBILITY PROGRAMMING FOR OUR COMMUNITY, INCLUDING A TOUCHTOUR, AUDIO DESCRIPTION, AND ASL INTERPRETATION. OUR FINAL PRODUCTION OF THE SEASON WAS THE BELOVED MUSICAL MAMMA MIA!, PERFORMING IN JUNE 2022.BST IS PROUD TO HAVE PROVIDED OPPORTUNITIES FOR CULTURAL ENGAGEMENT FOR OUR COMMUNITY DURING THIS UNPRECEDENTED TIME. WE AIM TO CONTINUE OUR OUTDOOR SUMMER CAMPS AND SUMMER IN THE PARKS SERIES IN SUBSEQUENT YEARS AS PART OF OUR REGULAR PROGRAMMING. 2022 SUMMER CAMPS INCLUDED A MORNING SESSION FOR STUDENTS IN GRADES K-4, AND AN AFTERNOON SESSION FOR 5TH GRADE AND UP.
