A PUBLIC-BENEFIT, NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION CHAMPIONING THE LITERARY, ARTISTIC, AND CULTURAL CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE LATE WRITER, ARTIST, AND INDIANAPOLIS NATIVE, KURT VONNEGUT.

THE KVML IS A PUBLIC-BENEFIT, NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION CHAMPIONING THE LITERARY, ARTISTIC, AND CULTURAL CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE LATE WRITER, KURT VONNEGUT. WE CONDUCT SUICIDE PREVENTION TRAINING, AUTHOR TALKS, POETRY READINGS, A YOUTH WRITING CENTER, VETERANS PROGRAMMING, A READING ROOM, AND A LENDING LIBRARY. THE LIBRARY SERVES AS A CULTURAL AND EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE FACILITY, MUSEUM, AND ART GALLERY, PROVIDING AN ART GALLERY, MUSEUM, VENUE FOR FREE SPEECH DIALOGUE, AND A SHOP TO HIGHLIGHT THE LIFE OF KURT VONNEGUT THROUGH RESEARCH, ENTERTAINMENT, COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND DISCUSSION. DURING 2021, KVML WAS ABLE TO START AN ENDOWMENT. 10,014 VISITED DURING 2021.


VONNEGUT FEST - VONNEGUT FEST IS AN ANNUAL FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTING VONNEGUT AND HIS INTERESTS RELATED TO ART, MUSIC, HUMOR, AND LITERATURE. THERE ARE SPEAKERS, PERFORMERS, AND SOME EVENTS ARE FREE TO THE PUBLIC. VETERANS RECLAIM ARMISTICE DAY IS ONE PORTION OF THIS DAY. WE HIGHLIGHT CONTRIBUTIONS OF VETERANS. KVML EXPANDED ITS ONLINE PROGRAMMING TO MEET THE DEMANDS OF A GLOBAL IMPORTANT VOICES IN VETERANS ISSUES. ONLY 64 VISITORS ATTENDED THIS EVENT IN PERSON IN 2021.


BY CREATING A "VIRTUAL MUSEUM" EXPERIENCE FEATURING VIDEOS WITH KVML PROGRAMS SUCH AS GRADUATION PARTIES WITH CELEBRITIES WHERE INDIVIDUAL GRADUATES NAMES WERE READ AND VONNEGUT'S GRADUATION SPEECHES WERE READ BY CELEBRITIES. KVML HOSTED ITS ANNUAL BANNED BOOKS WEEK AND HIGHLIGHTED VONNEGUT'S ENVIRONMENTALISM WITH A VARIETY OF IN-PERSON AND VIRTUAL PROGRAMS. KVML ALSO CONTINUED ITS YOUTH WRITING PROGRAM IN INDIANAPOLIS PUBLIC SCHOOLS THROUGH IN PERSON AND VIRTUAL MENTORING SESSIONS WITH STUDENTS. THIS PROGRAM WILL CONTINUE INTO FUTURE YEARS AND IS EXPANDING TO OTHER INDIANAPOLIS PUBLIC SCHOOLS. 2,300 ATTENDEES COMBINED FOR 2021.
