THE MISSION OF THE CAMP SUREFIRE FOUNDATION IS TO SUPPORT AND MANAGE CAMP SUREFIRE, RHODE ISLAND'S ONLY CAMP FOR CHILDREN WITH TYPE I DIABETES; TO CREATE A COMMUNITY OF LEARNING ABOUT DIABETES BETWEEN CAMPERS AND THEIR PEERS, COUNSELORS, AND MEDICAL STAFF; AND TO PROMOTE THE DEVELOPMENT OF LIFE-LONG SKILLS AND RELATIONSHIPS WHICH WILL MINIMIZE THE IMPACT OF DIABETES ON THE PARTICIPANT'S LIVES.

CAMP SUREFIRE FOUNDATION HAS SUPPORTED AND MANAGED RHODE ISLAND'S ONLY CAMP FOR CHILDREN WITH TYPE I DIABETES. WE HAVE PROMOTED EDUCATION ABOUT DIABETES BETWEEN CAMPERS AND THEIR PEERS, COUNSELORS, AND MEDICAL STAFF; AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF LIFE-LONG SKILLS AND RELATIONSHIPS MINIMIZING THE IMPACT OF DIABETES ON PARTICIPANT'S LIVES. THE CAMP PROGRAMS ARE RUN BY DOCTORS, NURSES, AND OTHER VOLUNTEERS. THE NUMBER OF CAMPERS BENEFITED HAS INCREASED STEADILY EACH YEAR, AND SCHOLARSHIPS (CAMPERSHIPS) WERE MADE AVALABLE FOR LOW INCOME FAMILIES.
