Part 3 - Line 4a
OVER THE PAST THIRTY-FIVE YEARS THE RON BURTON TRAINING VILLAGE (RBTV) HAS SERVED MORE THAN 11,000 YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN IN THEIR SPIRITUAL, PHYSICAL, AND EDUCATIONAL GROWTH. TWELVE MONTHS A YEAR, PARTICIPANTS ARE GUIDED, SUPPORTED AND MENTORED IN SOME OF LIFE'S MOST ESSENTIAL AREAS INCLUDING: EDUCATION, SOCIAL SKILLS, MORALS, VALUES, LEADERSHIP AND FITNESS. RBTV CONSISTS OF THREE PROGRAMS: THE PURPOSE AND LEADERSHIP JOURNEY, STEM JOURNEY, AND WEEKEND RETREATS. PURPOSE AND LEADERSHIP JOURNEY IS A PROGRAM OF PERSEVERANCE AND FORTITUDE GIRDED IN SPIRITUAL, SOCIAL, EDUCATIONAL, AND PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT TO BUILD A RESILIENT, COMPASSIONATE, PURPOSE-DRIVEN LEADER OF CHARACTER. THE PURPOSE AND LEADERSHIP JOURNEY IS A YEAR-ROUND PROGRAM PROVIDING MENTORSHIP TO AND SUPPORT FOR UNDERSERVED YOUTH, AGE(S) 11 - 18. THE JOURNEY IS HIGHLIGHTED EACH SUMMER BY A 5-WEEK INTENSE TRAINING SESSION FOCUSED ON ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE, PHYSICAL WELLNESS, LIFE SKILLS, LEADERSHIP, AND A LOVE FOR GOD AND FOR OTHERS. RBTV PARTICIPANTS (VILLAGERS) RECEIVE YEAR-ROUND EXPOSURE AND MENTORSHIP FROM LEADERS IN EDUCATION, BUSINESS, THE MILITARY, AND THE COMMUNITY. THEY ATTEND MONTHLY EVENTS TO FURTHER FACILITATE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT. IT IS A SEVEN-YEAR JOURNEY TO BUILD THE PROPER FOUNDATION FOR SUCCESSFUL ADULT LIFE. AGE 11-18 ARE CRITICAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT YEARS IN LIFE. CONFIDENCE AND SELF-ESTEEM ARE BUILT THROUGH A BROAD CONTINUUM OF YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMMING. RBTV HAS PROVEN THAT A LONG-TERM COMMITMENT AND CONSISTENCY PRODUCES EXCELLENT RESULTS IN THE POSITIVE DEVELOPMENT OF EACH CHILD. CHILDREN ARE SELECTED FROM VERY DIVERSE BACKGROUNDS, MOST FROM ECONOMICALLY AND AT-RISK SITUATIONS. NO CHILD IS TURNED AWAY DUE TO THEIR FINANCIAL SITUATION. 100% OF RBTV YOUTH GRADUATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL AND 86% ARE ACCEPTED INTO COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES, SOME WITH SCHOLARSHIPS. THEY DEVELOP THE SKILLS NECESSARY TO NOT ONLY SURVIVE BUT THRIVE IN LIFE. RBTV PRODUCES CITIZENS WHO POSITIVELY IMPACT THEIR COMMUNITIES. THE STEM JOURNEY EMPOWERS THE NEXT GENERATION OF INNOVATORS THROUGH OPPORTUNITIES IN SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, AND MATH (STEM). THROUGH CLASSROOM EDUCATION, FIELD TRIPS AND INTERACTION WITH EXPERTS IN SCIENCE, MEDICINE, BIOTECHNOLOGY AND ENGINEERING, THE OBJECTIVE IS TO INSTILL CONFIDENCE AND PREPARE EACH PARTICIPANT TO MAKE WINNING DECISIONS FOR LIFE. THE STEM JOURNEY IS COMPRISED OF SEVEN YEARS OF UNIQUELY DESIGNED, YEAR-ROUND EXPERIENCES DEVELOPED BY RON BURTON TRAINING VILLAGE STAFF INCLUDING: SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED, HANDS-ON RESEARCH PROJECTS IN STEM AREAS, FIELD TRIPS AND ENHANCED LEARNING EXPERIENCES HOSTED BY RBTV CORPORATE PARTNERS, CLASSROOM AND ONLINE ACADEMIC INSTRUCTION AND TUTORING, MENTORSHIP BY PROMINENT SCIENTISTS, TECH LEADERS, ENGINEERS AND MATH EXPERTS, PEER-TO-PEER LEARNING EXPERIENCES THAT ENCOURAGE CRITICAL THINKING AND CREATIVITY, AND HOLISTIC TRAINING TO IMPROVE HEALTH AND WELLNESS AT RETREATS HELD AT THE RBTV CAMPUS.STEM EDUCATION FOSTERS CRITICAL THINKING, INCREASES SCIENCE LITERACY AND ENCOURAGES THE APPLICATION OF BETTER SOLUTIONS THAT MEET NEW REQUIREMENTS, UNARTICULATED NEEDS IN OUR EVER-CHANGING WORLD. RBTV STEM JOURNEY IS CREATED TO FOSTER CURIOSITY AND PROVIDE HANDS-ON, EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING TO STUDENTS WITH AN INTEREST IN MATH AND SCIENCE. PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS WILL LEARN TO COLLABORATE AND TAKE RISKS IN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT THAT HAS 35 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE GUIDING CHILDREN TO A SUCCESSFUL AND PRODUCTIVE ADULTHOOD. WEEKEND RETREAT PROGRAM BRINGS UNDERSERVED CHILDREN FROM BOSTON AND URBAN NEIGHBORHOODS THROUGHOUT MASSACHUSETTS TO THE RBTV CAMPUS IN HUBBARDSTON, MA, FOR A WEEKEND MINI-SESSION OF THE RON BURTON TRAINING VILLAGE EXPERIENCE. IT IS AN INTENSIVE, HIGH-IMPACT COURSE IN LIFE SKILLS AND THE STRATEGIES REQUIRED TO ACHIEVE SUCCESS IN SCHOOL AND AT HOME. ALL TEACHINGS ARE BASED ON THE LATE RON BURTON, SR.'S PRESCRIBED CORE VALUES OF LOVE, PEACE, PATIENCE AND HUMILITY AND INCLUDE RBTV'S PRACTICES AND PRINCIPLES TO IMPROVE THEIR LIVES, INCREASE ACCESS TO OPPORTUNITIES, AND DEVELOP CHARACTER. IN THIS SETTING, CHILDREN ARE PROVIDED WITH COACHING, CLASSES AND DISCUSSIONS, IN TOPICS LIKE CONFLICT RESOLUTION, AND THEN PRACTICE THEM IN A SAFE AND CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT. INCORPORATED INTO THE WEEKEND ARE PERIODS OF REFLECTION, ATHLETICS, GUIDANCE, MENTORING AND FUN. THE OBJECTIVE IS TO PROVIDE CHILDREN WITH AN ALTERNATE PERSPECTIVE AND INSPIRE NEW APPROACHES TO FACING LIFE'S CHALLENGES.THE WEEKEND RETREAT PROGRAM PUTS KIDS IN A SPRAWLING OUTDOOR ENVIRONMENT FILLED WITH NATURAL BEAUTY AND REMOVED FROM THE STRESS OF URBAN SURROUNDINGS. RON BURTON, SR., KNEW FIRSTHAND ABOUT THE BENEFITS OF SHOWING CHILDREN THE BEAUTIFUL ASPECTS OF LIFE AND TEACHING THEM GODLY VALUES, AND HOW BOTH IMPACT THE MINDSET OF A CHILD IN A POSITIVE WAY. HE BELIEVED THAT, "IF YOU SEE BEAUTIFUL THINGS - YOU WILL THINK BEAUTIFUL THOUGHTS." ALL ATTENDING CHILDREN ARE PROVIDED WITH THREE HOT MEALS A DAY, OVERNIGHT ACCOMMODATIONS, AND WORKOUT CLOTHES. THE WEEKEND RETREATS ARE CONDENSED AND ENGAGING SO THAT EACH CHILD LEAVES WITH THE TOOLS THEY NEED TO START BUILDING A FOUNDATION ON WHICH THEY CAN PRACTICE APPLYING RBTV'S CORE VALUES IN THEIR EVERYDAY LIFE. RBTV WANTS TO CHANGE THE WAY KIDS THINK ABOUT THEMSELVES SO THAT THEY CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THEIR OWN LIVES AND FOR OTHERS - INSPIRING A NEW WAY OF LIVING.
