THROUGH THE SAFETY TRAINING AWARDS RECOGNITION (STAR) PROGRAM, THE TRUSTEES HOPE TO REDUCE WORK-RELATED INJURIES TO MEMBERS OF THE UNION AND THUS REDUCE THE COSTS FOR EMPLOYERS. STAR IS A SAFETY INCENTIVE PROGRAM PROVIDING RECOGNITION AND REWARDS TO MEMBERS OF THE UNION WHO PARTICIPATE IN SAFETY EDUCATION PROGRAMS AND TRAINING CARRIED OUT BY THE FINISHING TRADES INSTITUTE OF WESTERN NEW YORK, AN AFFILIATED APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING PROGRAM OF THE UNION.

TRAINING CENTER - THE NUMBER OF MEMBERS WHO REGISTER FOR THE TRAINING CLASSES VARIES WITH EACH CLASS. RECOMMENDED COURSES INCLUDE RED CROSS CPR, BLOOD BORNE PATHOGENS, AND RESPIRATORY TRAINING.


STAR RAFFLE - MEMBER MUST BE IN GOOD STANDING WHICH INCLUDES 800 OR MORE SAFE HOURS, CURRENT IN UNION DUES, PARTICIPATE IN THE REQUIRED NUMBER OF SAFETY COURSES, AND THEIR EMPLOYER HAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE STAR FUND.


RECOGNITION AND REWARD - AN AWARDS CEREMONY TO RECOGNIZE EMPLOYEES SAFE HOURS - HOURS WORKED WITHOUT MISSING A FULL DAY'S PAY DUE TO AN ON THE JOB ACCIDENT, INJURY OR WORK-RELATED ILLNESS FOR WORK PERFORMED DURING THE QUALIFYING WORK PERIOD.
