EDUCATION EVENTS: LIFEJACKET EVENT:DROWNING PREVENTION DATA IS HARD TO COLLECT DUE TO THE VARYING CAUSES OF DROWNINGS, BUT THE ORGANIZATION IS ACTIVELY WORKING WITH THE HENNEPIN COUNTY WATER PATROL AND THE MN DEPT OF HEALTH TO MONITOR DROWNING STATISTICS IN OUR STATE. A SHARP INCREASE IN OPEN WATER DROWNINGS LED US TO SEE THE NEED FOR ADDITIONAL OPEN WATER SAFETY EDUCATION AND LIFEJACKET USAGE TRAINING. A LIFEJACKET EDUCATION AND GIVEAWAY EVENT WAS PUT ON WITH THE HENNEPIN COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE AND THE HENNEPIN COUNTY SHERIFF FOUNDATION. THIS EVENT ENCOURAGES ATTENDEES TO WEAR LIFEJACKETS WHILE ON THE OPEN WATER, AND EVENT ATTENDEES HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE HOME A FREE LIFEJACKET IN THEIR SIZE.
