LIFE SKILLS: ONE OF OUR PRIMARY OBJECTIVES IS TO LEAD ORPHANS TO SUCCESSFUL TRANSITION FROM ORPHANAGE LIFE TO INDEPENDENT LIVING. THROUGH MULTIPLE LIFE SKILLS TRAINING, WE INSTILL LEADERSHIP AND VOLUNTEERING TRAITS IN YOUNG ADULT ORPHANS. WE ALSO PROVIDE ENTREPRENEURIAL GRANTS AND LOANS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE TO START BUSINESSES AND FUND EDUCATIONAL COURSES.
FAMILY CARE:IN THIS FISCAL YEAR, WE SERVED 19 YOUNG FAMILIES AND 16 SINGLE MOTHERS ALONG WITH 47 OF THEIR CHILDREN IN THE VLADIMIR, KOSTROMA, IVANOVO, AND KIROV REGIONS TOTALING 101 PARTICIPANTS. PROFESSIONAL COUNSELING AND INDIVIDUAL SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGEMENT ARE KEY COMPONENTS OF THE YOUNG FAMILIES PROGRAM. THERE IS ALSO AN EMERGENCY FUND FOR UNEXPECTED ILLNESSES OR FROM A JOB LOSS. IN ADDITION, FOR MANY OTHER FAMILIES WHO ARE NOT PARTICIPANTS IN THE OFFICIAL YOUNG FAMILIES PROGRAM, WE PROVIDE SEMINARS, COUNSELING, GROUP FAMILY EVENTS, AND FINANCIAL AID AS NEEDED. THESE FAMILIES CONSIST OF 39 PARENTS AND 72 CHILDREN.
OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES INCLUDE MINISTRY JOURNEY, MEDICAL AND DENTAL ASSISTANCE, RESIDENTIAL CARE, AND FOSTER CARE.
DACHA - GOING TO A DACHA IN THE SUMMER IS A STRONG PART OF THE RUSSIAN CULTURE. DACHAS HAVE VEGETABLE GARDENS TO RAISE BOTH FOR CURRENT USE AND FOR THE COMING WINTER MONTHS. MOST IMPORTANT IS THE MENTORSHIP THAT TRANSPIRES AS STAFF MEMBERS AND YOUNG ADULT ORPHANS WORK AND RECREATE TOGETHER. WE OPERATE TWO DACHAS IN THE KOSTROMA AND VLADIMIR REGIONS. ONE INCLUDES A WOODWORKING SHOP ALLOWING YOUNG MEN TO PRACTICE WHAT SOME ARE LEARNING AT THEIR TECH SCHOOLS. THEY ALSO ENJOY RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES SUCH AS CROSS COUNTRY SKIING AND FISHING.
