THE COMMUNITY BREAD BASKET IS A COOPERATIVE OUTREACH MINISTRY OF THE CHURCHES, OTHER SUPPORTIVE ORGANIZATIONS, BUSINESSES AND INDIVIDUALS IN THE WEIRTON, WV AREA TO ASSURE THE BASIC NEEDS OF LIFE FOR PEOPLE AND FAMILIES.

THE BREAD BASKET PROVIDES A FOOD PANTRY WHICH IS OPEN TO INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES IN THE COMMUNITY EVERY FRIDAY. OUR FOOD PANTRY IS RUN BY VOLUNTEERS FROM SEVERAL LOCAL CONGREGATIONS UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE PROGRAM ADMINISTRATOR. WE HAVE DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS WHO FAITHFULLY COME TO FILL AND DISTRIBUTE FOOD ORDERS. THE FOOD PANTRY IS STOCKED THROUGH THE SUPPORT OF OUR CHURCHES AND LOCAL BUSINESSES. BULK SUPPLIES ARE PURCHASED FROM THE MOUNTAINEER FOOD BANK. 1,295 FAMILIES WERE ASSISTED DURING 2021 IN ADDITION TO SEVERAL LOCAL LOW-INCOME HOUSING FACILITIES AND OTHER FOOD ASSISTANCE ORGANIZATIONS.
OUR UTILITY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM PROVIDES PAYMENTS TO THE UTILITY COMPANY OR LANDLORD FOR FAMILIES WITH EVICTION OR TERMINATION NOTICES - 53 FAMILIES WERE ASSISTED IN 2021.
THE GABRIEL PROJECT PROVIDES NEEDED BABY CLOTHING AND ITEMS (DIAPERS, CRIBS, CAR SEATS, ETC) TO FAMILIES IN NEED. IN THE GABRIEL ROOM, A STAFF VOLUNTEER HELPS SELECT THE NECESSARY ITEMS TO NOURISH THE CHILD. OFTEN OUR GABRIEL ROOM RECEIVES GIFTS FROM OUR DONORS OF DIAPERS, CLOTHES (BOYS/GIRLS 0-7), CLOTHING ACCESSORIES, BABY FOOD, BLANKETS, AND STUFFED ANIMALS - 7 FAMILIES WERE ASSISTED DURING 2021.
