OUR VISION IS TO SEE THE LIVES OF CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES WHO ARE STRUGGLING FROM THE RAVAGES OF POVERTY, ABUSE, NEGLECT, AND HOPELESSNESS RESTORED AND THE BONDAGES BROKEN THROUGH THE LOVE OF GOD. WHEREBY MEN, WOMEN AND CHILDREN CAN BE FREE TO FULFILL THE PLANS FOR WHICH THEY WERE CREATED. WE REALIZE THAT AT SOME TIME IN OUR LIVES WE ALL NEED SOME HELP. OVER THE PAST 5 YEARS WE HAVE SEEN A DISTURBING TREND WHEREBY CHILDREN ARE HAVING MORE TROUBLE AT SCHOOL, WITH FRIENDS, AND EVEN AT HOME. YET WORKING WITH CHILDREN WE HAVE SEEN THAT WITH MENTORING AND OTHER SUPPORTIVE RESOURCES THEY ARE EAGER TO CHANGE THE TRAJECTORY OF THEIR LIFE. THE BENEFITS TO THE CHILDREN, THEIR FAMILIES, AND THE COMMUNITIES IN WHICH THEY LIVE IS PRICELESS. THIS RESULTS IN A REDUCTION IN SCHOOL DROP OUTS, IN TEEN PREGNANCIES, IN UNEMPLOYMENT, AND IN GENERATIONAL POVERTY. STREETLIGHT MISSION HAS JOINED THE NON-PROFIT COVENANT HOUSE OF NEW JERSEY. COVENANT HOUSE IS THE LEADER IN CARING FOR HOMELESS, ABANDONED, AND TRAFFICKED YOUTH. THEY HAVE BEEN SERVING THE YOUNG FOR MORE THAN 40 YEARS. THEY NOW HAVE FACILITIES IN 31 CITIES AND IN 6 COUNTRIES. THIS UNION WILL LEVERAGE THE STRENGTHS OF BOTH ORGANIZATIONS, PROVIDING COMPREHENSIVE, LIFE CHANGING, HELP TO MORE HOMELESS YOUTH. COVENANT HOUSE NEW JERSEY'S COMPREHENSIVE CONTINUUM OF CARE PROVIDES HOUSING, FOOD, MEDICAL, MENTAL HEALTH, LEGAL, JOB ASSISTANCE, AND SPIRITUAL CARE SERVICES AS KIDS MOVE FROM HOMELESSNESS TO SELF-SUFFICIENCY. AS PART OF COVENANT HOUSE, THE STREETLIGHT PROPERTY LOCATED AT 424 WESTMINSTER AVE., ELIZABETH WILL BE COMPLETED. THERE, 20 YOUTH BETWEEN THE AGES OF 18 AND 21 WILL HAVE A SAFE PLACE TO BEGIN THEIR FUTURE. EACH RESIDENT WILL RECEIVE BASIC NECESSITIES LIKE FOOD, SHELTER, AND CLOTHING, AS WELL AS MEDICAL, MENTAL HEALTH, LEGAL, JOB ASSISTANCE, AND SPIRITUAL CARE SERVICES THROUGH THE COVENANT HOUSE CONTINUUM OF CARE. THE GOAL IS TO HELP EACH CHILD JOURNEY TOWARDS SELF-SUFFICIENCY AND A FUTURE THAT IS FILLED WITH HOPE.
