Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3
THE MAROL ACADEMY IS THE MAIN SUPPORTER OF THE MAROL ACADEMY PRIMARY SCHOOL (MAPS). THE PRIMARY GOAL OF THE MAROL ACADEMY IS TO FUND THE SALARIES AND OPERATING EXPENSES AT MAPS. THE CAMPUS OF MAPS IS SHARED WITH THE MAROL ACADEMY SECONDARY SCHOOL (MASS). SOME FACILITIES OF THE CAMPUS ARE SHARED BY MAPS AND MASS. .MAPS HAS 18 TEACHERS AND MASS HAS 12 TEACHERS. MAPS HAS APPROXIMATELY 800 STUDENTS ENROLLED, 60% OF WHICH ARE GIRLS. MASS HAS 428 STUDENTS THE MAJORITY OF WHICH ARE BOYS. REASONS FOR A LOWER PERCENTAGE OF GIRLS ATTENDING MASS INCLUDE THE INABILITY TO SAFELY TRAVEL TO THE SCHOOL, EARLY MARRIAGE AND DOMESTIC WORK. .IN-PERSON INSTRUCTION WAS SEVERELY IMPACTED BY THE PANDEMIC SCHOOL CLOSURE. IN-PERSON INSTRUCTION AT MAPS AND MASS WAS RESTARTED IN APRIL 2021. THE GOVERNMENT OF SOUTH SUDAN DECIDED THAT RATHER THAN HOLDING STUDENTS BACK A YEAR THEY WOULD BE PASSED TO THE NEXT GRADE LEVELS AND MAKE-UP LESSONS WOULD BE ADDED TO THE CURRENT YEAR CURRICULUM. .$25,000 FROM THE UNITED SUPPORT FOR ARTISTS FROM AFRICA ALLOWED COMPLETION OF CONSTRUCTION ON THE LIBRARY. NOW THAT THE LIBRARY IS A PROPER STRUCTURE THE NEXT STEP IS TO ENHANCE THE LIBRARY'S EDUCATIONAL CAPABILITIES. FUTURE FUNDRAISING EFFORTS WILL BE FOCUSED ON FURNISHING THE STRUCTURE, ADDING MORE PANELS TO THE ROOFTOP SOLAR ARRAY, GETTING CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET AND SOURCING PERSONAL COMPUTING DEVICES. IN SHORT WE LOOK TO CREATE A LIBRARY WITHOUT WALLS GIVING STUDENTS WORLDWIDE ACCESS TO TEXTBOOKS AND MULTIMEDIA LEARNING MATERIAL..MAROL ACADEMY GRANTED $44,975.00 TO MAPS IN 2021. THESE FUNDS WERE USED FOR TEACHERS' SALARIES AND ONGOING COSTS RELATED TO CONSTRUCTION OF THE LIBRARY. THE GEOPOLITICAL SITUATION IN SOUTH SUDAN REMAINS UNSTABLE. INFLATION, LACK OF INFRASTRUCTURE, REGIONAL FIGHTING AND FOOD INSECURITY ARE DESTABILIZING FORCES WITHIN THE COUNTRY. IT IS AGAINST THESE HEADWINDS THAT MAPS CONTINUES TO PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL SERVICES TO A NATION SO DESPERATELY IN NEED.
