Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3

THE MAROL ACADEMY IS THE MAIN SUPPORTER OF THE MAROL ACADEMY PRIMARY SCHOOL (MAPS). THE PRIMARY GOAL OF THE MAROL ACADEMY IS TO FUND THE SALARIES AND OPERATING EXPENSES AT MAPS. THE CAMPUS OF MAPS IS SHARED WITH THE MAROL ACADEMY SECONDARY SCHOOL (MASS). SOME FACILITIES OF THE CAMPUS ARE SHARED BY MAPS AND MASS. .OVER 1200 STUDENTS ATTEND MAPS AND MASS. APPROXIMATELY 2/3 OF THE STUDENTS ATTEND MAPS. OUR MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN 2022 WERE MAINTAINING IN-PERSON CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION AND THE COMPLETION OF CONSTRUCTION ON THE SCIENCE BUILDING. ENTHUSIASM FOR THE NEW SCIENCE BUILDING IS TEMPERED BY THE STRUCTURE'S LACK OF DOORS, WINDOWS, DESKS AND LABORATORY EQUIPMENT. UNTIL THESE MATERIALS CAN BE OBTAINED BLACKBOARD INSTRUCTION WILL HAVE TO DO. .SINCE OPENING THE SECONDARY SCHOOL IN 2012 MASS HAS GRADUATED 1,900 STUDENTS AND 921 HAVE GONE ON TO STUDY AT THE UNIVERSITY LEVEL. .IN JULY OF 2022, PRESIDENT DAN HYSLOP MADE A VISIT TO SOUTH SUDAN AND MET WITH TEACHERS, STUDENTS AND STAFF FROM MAPS & MASS AND WAS GIVEN A LIST OF NECESSARY IMPROVEMENTS THAT NEED TO BE MADE. THESE INCLUDE CHAIRS AND DESKS FOR EVERY CLASSROOM, A WELL FOR FRESH WATER, FLOOD CONTROL MEASURES, NEW LAVATORY FACILITIES, FENCING FOR SECURITY, MORE TEACHERS AND BETTER PAY, A VEHICLE TO TRANSPORT SICK STUDENTS TO THE TOWN CLINIC AND EQUIPMENT FOR SPORT AND RECREATION ACTIVITIES. . A VIDEO WAS PRODUCED FROM FOOTAGE TAKEN DURING HIS TRAVELS TO SOUTH SUDAN AND USED AS PART OF MAROL ACADEMY'S ANNUAL FOUNDER'S DAY APPEAL. MAROL ACADEMY GRANTED $23,186 (INCLUDING TWO LAPTOP COMPUTERS) TO MAPS IN 2022. THESE FUNDS WERE USED FOR COSTS RELATED TO FINISHING THE SCIENCE BUILDING, CLASSROOM EQUIPMENT (PRIMARILY BENCHES FOR SEATING) AND TEACHERS' SALARIES..THE HUMANITARIAN SITUATION IN SOUTH SUDAN REMAINS DIRE WITH MILLIONS OF PEOPLE FACING FOOD INSECURITY AND DISPLACEMENT DUE TO CONFLICT AND LACK OF BASIC INFRASTRUCTURE. THE PATH TO STABILITY AND DEVELOPMENT REMAINS UNCERTAIN IN THE ABSENCE OF A FUNCTIONING STATE.
