COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMS: A. PRIMARY-NURSERY SCHOOL OPERATION: PARTNER WITH THE AGWATA COMMUNITY RELATIVE TO THE BUILDING AND OPERATION OF THIS NORTHERN UGANDA SCHOOL WHICH HAS OVER 500 STUDENTS IN NURSERY TO P7,INCLUDING 18 TEACHERS AND 8 SUPPORT STAFF. THIS SCHOOL STARTED IN 2010 WITH 20 STUDENTS. DURING 2021, OU PROVIDED SCHOOL AND GARDEN FENCING AND SCHOOL DESKS AND FURNITURE.B. COMMUNITY HEALTH CARE UNIT IN AGWATA VILLAGE: THE COMMUNITY-MANAGED CLINIC SERVES OVER 5000 PEOPLE IN FIVE VILLAGES. OU CONTRIBUTES TOWARDS STAFFING & MEDICINES.C. HOME BUILDING PROGRAM FOR JINJA WOMEN: DURING 2021, THIS PROGRAM HAD MINIMAL ACTIVITY DUE TO COVID LOCKDOWNS AND RESTRICTIONS IN UGANDA.
CHILD AND YOUTH EDUCATION PROGRAM:EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE OF VARIOUS SORTS IS PROVIDED TO SELECTED CHILDREN OF PEOPLE PARTICIPATING IN OUR INCOME-GENERATION PROGRAMS AND INCLUDING SOME STUDENTS WHO ATTEND THE AGWATA COMMUNITY SCHOOL. IN ADDITION, WE PROVIDE TRAINING TO BOTH STUDENTS AND PARENTS ON IMPORTANT TOPICS. SUB-PROGRAMS TO HELP THE CHILDREN ARE:1. CHILD SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM WHICH CURRENTLY HAS OVER 220 CHILDREN SPONSORED2. SCHOLARSHIPS FOR SELECTED STUDENTS IN UNIVERSITY OR VOCATIONAL TRAINING3. GIRLS' EDUCATION INITIATIVE TO HELP GIRLS IN 3RD TO 6TH GRADE AT THE AGWATA LOCATION EXCEL SO THAT THEY CAN CONTINUE INTO SECONDARY SCHOOL WITHOUT DROPPING OUT TO GET MARRIED. FOR 2021, 150 GIRLS ARE IN THIS PROGRAM. FIFTY-SIX HAVE PROGRESSSED TO SECONDARY SCHOOL/VOCATIONAL.
INCOME-GENERATION AND SELF-SUFFICIENCY PROGRAMS PRIMARILY FOR WOMEN:ASSISTANCE TO IMPOVERISHED PEOPLE IN UGANDA, PRIMARILY IN THREE SPECIFIC WOMEN'S GROUPS PLUS ONE MEN'S GROUP LOCATED IN JINJA, KITGUM AND AGWATA UGANDA. WE PROVIDE: A.PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT AND MARKETING FOR THE WOMEN'S FAIR TRADE CRAFTS, PLUS BUSINESS AND TRAINING ASSISTANCE INCLUDING PROVISION OF FUNDS FOR THE WOMEN'S GROUPS REVOLVING LOAN PROGRAMS. MOST OF THE WOMEN WERE LIVING ON LESS THAN $1 PER DAY PRIOR TO JOINING OUR POGRAMS.B. TRAINING AND ASSISTANCE WITH CASH CROP AGRICULTURE ENDEAVORS AS WELL AS STRATEGIES TO IMPROVE FOOD SECURITY FOR HOUSEHOLDS IN THE NORTHERN UGANDA VILLAGES WE SERVE.# SERVED: 170 PARTICIPANTS WITH AN AVERAGE OF 8 MEMBERS PER HOUSEHOLD
