Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
THE MISSION OF CENTREPEACE IS TO IDENTIFY AND MANAGE BARRIERS THAT PREVENT INCARCERATED INDIVIDUALS FROM SUCCESSFULLY REENTERING OUR COMMUNITY. TEACHING VARIOUS JOB SKILLS IS JUST ONE WAY WE WORK TO OUR OBJECTIVE. DONATED ITEMS BY THE PUBLIC ARE USED TO TEACH FURNITURE REPAIR AND RESTORATION, LIGHT ELECTRICAL, UPCYCLING AND REPURPOSING OF FURNITURE AND ITEMS. WORKING SHOULDER TO SHOULDER WITH OUR TRAINEES FROM THE CENTRE COUNTY CORRECTIONAL FACILITY (CCCF), WE ARE ALSO TEACHING SOCIAL AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS. TRAINEES ARE ALWAYS SUPERVISED AND MANAGED BY STAFF MEMBERS FOLLOWING A VERY SPECIFIC SET OF GUIDELINES PUT FORTH BY BOTH CENTREPEACE AND CENTRE COUNTY CORRECTIONAL FACILITY. HOWEVER, THE SUPERVISORY ROLE DOES NOT PREVENT US FROM GETTING TO KNOW THE INDIVIDUALS AS PEOPLE. CENTREPEACE HAS THE PRIVILEGE OF SEEING INDIVIDUALS AT POSSIBLY THEIR LOWEST POINT, SEARCHING FOR ANSWERS AND QUESTIONING THEIR FUTURE, ALLOWING THEM TO SHOW THEIR VULNERABILITIES.CENTREPEACE ENJOYS THOUSANDS OF VOLUNTEER HOURS EVERY YEAR, FROM INDIVIDUALS SORTING AND PRICING MERCHANDISE TO RUNNING THE CASHIER STATION. THEIR TIME ON BEHALF OF ALL WE SERVE IS INVALUABLE. DURING COVID, WHEN CENTREPEACE AND MANY OTHER ORGANIZATIONS LOST OUR VOLUNTEER FORCE AS WELL AS THE TRAINEES FROM THE CORRECTIONAL FACILITY, CENTREPEACE EXPERIENCED RUNNING OUR SIZABLE OPERATION ON STAFF ALONE. THE TASK OF MOVING LITERALLY TONS OF FURNITURE AND GOODS EVERY WEEK WAS DAUNTING.ONE OF THE UNDOCUMENTED ASPECTS OF CENTREPEACE IS THE TONS OF FURNITURE AND OTHER ITEMS THAT WE KEEP FROM GOING INTO LANDFILLS EVERY YEAR. ADDITIONALLY, WE ARE ABLE TO SUPPORT ADDITIONAL COMMUNITY MEMBERS THROUGH OUR VOUCHER PROGRAM IN WHICH INDIVIDUALS IN NEED WHO ARE REFERRED FROM SEVERAL OTHER ORGANIZATIONS MAY COME TO CENTREPEACE TO PICK OUT FURNITURE AND GOODS TO BEGIN THEIR LIVES OVER. THE SENIOR POPULATION ARE ALSO A LARGE POPULATION SERVED BY CENTREPEACE, WITH MANY LIVING ON RESTRICTED INCOMES AND LOOKING FOR REPLACEMENT PIECES AT AFFORDABLE PRICES.PROGRAMS SUCH AS PRAYERMATES, CHRISTMAS CARDS FOR INMATES, AND BIRTHDAY CARDS FOR DEATH ROW INMATES CONTINUE TO BE OFFERED. THE TRAINEE ADVANCEMENT PROGRAM FOR RETURNING CITIZENS BEGAN THE 1ST QUARTER OF 2021.
