IN 2023, THE PA/NJ CHAPTER OF THE AMERICAN CHESTNUT FOUNDATION (TACF) PARTICIPATED IN THE PA FARM SHOW, DISTRIBUTING NUTS AND SHARING THE STORY OF THE AMERICAN CHESTNUT WITH THOUSANDS OVER THE COURSE OF THIS 8-DAY EVENT. WE ALSO PARTICIPATED IN FIVE OTHER OUTREACH EVENTS THROUGH THE SPRING AND SUMMER, WITH THE HELP OF VOLUNTEERS. WE HELD SPRING AND FALL MEETINGS THAT WERE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC WITH A TOTAL OF 175 ATTENDEES. IN JANUARY 2022, THE CHAPTER ESTABLISHED A SPEAKER'S BUREAU. THE BUREAU CONSISTED OF A DOZEN VOLUNTEERS INTERESTED IN GIVING PRESENTATIONS TO VARIOUS GROUPS. THE BUREAU MET QUARTERLY TO PRACTICE AND DISCUSS PRESENTATION STRATEGIES. VOLUNTEERS GAVE PRESENTATIONS TO 7 DIFFERENT GROUPS IN 2023. WITH THE HELP OF GENEROUS DONORS, WE HIRED AN OUTREACH INTERN TO CONNECT WITH CITIZEN SCIENTISTS WHO ARE GROWING CHESTNUTS FOR OUR RESTORATION EFFORT. THIS INTERN TRAVELED OVER 3,400 MILES, MEETING WITH MEMBERS AND GROWERS.
