Describe the Organization's Mission:

Part 3 - Line 1

TO RECRUIT VOLUNTEERS TO PROVIDE NON-PROFESSIONAL SUPPORTIVE HOME CARE SERVICES TO THE FRAIL, THE EDERLY, THE DISABLED AND THE HOMEBOUND, ENABLING THEM TO LIVE INDEPENDENTLY.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

CAREGIVERS VOLUNTEERS OF CENTRAL JERSEY (CVCJ) FILLS THE IMPORTANT ROLE OF PROVIDING MEDICAL TRANSPORTATION TO THE HOMEBOUND, FRAIL ELDERLY. THIS INCLUDES TRANSPORTATION TO DOCTOR VISITS, CHEMOTHERAPY, PHYSICAL THERAPY, LAB WORK, ETC. WHEN THE ELDERLY NEED TO GIVE UP THEIR CAR KEYS DUE TO THEIR OWN MEDICAL ISSUES, THEIR ABILITY TO REMAIN INDEPENDENT IN THEIR OWN HOME GREATLY DEMINISHES. THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE FOR THOSE WHO LOST A SPOUSE AND EITHER DO NOT HAVE CHILDREN OR THEIR CHILDREN CANNOT CARE FOR THEM. OUR LARGEST SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENT IS TO PROVIDE FREE TRANSPORTATION THROUGH CARING VOLUNTEERS TO PROLONG THEIR INDEPENDENCE AND LINK THEM TO OTHER RESOURCES.

CVCJ'S NEXT MAJOR REQUEST FOR HELP COMES FROM THE ELDERLY WHO CAN NO LONGER GROCERY SHOP FOR THEMSELVES. THIS CAN BE DUE TO THEIR INABILITY TO DRIVE TO THE SUPERMARKET AND/OR THEIR LIMITED PHYSICAL MOBILITY AND ABILITY TO NAVIGATE GROCERY STORE AISLES AND CARRYING BAGS. BY PROVIDING VOLUNTEERS TO GROCERY SHOP WE ARE PROVIDING ANOTHER ESSENTIAL SERVICE WHICH ENABLES FRAIL, ELDERLY TO REMAIN INDEPENDENT IN THEIR OWN HOMES. WE ARE ALSO PROVIDING MUCH NEEDED CONTACT WITH A CARING VOLUNTEER WHICH CONNECTS THE SENIOR CITIZEN TO ADDITIONAL RESOURCES.

CVCJ VOLUNTEERS ALSO PROVIDES RESPITE CARE TO CAREGIVERS LIVING AT HOME WITH A DISABLED FAMILY MEMBER OR LOVED ONE OR AN INDIVIDUAL WITH DEMENTIA. THIS NON-MEDICAL RESPITE ALLOWS THE BURDENED CAREGIVER TO TEND TO THEIR OWN MEDICAL OR PERSONAL NEEDS WHICH OFTEN GETS IGNORED DURING THIS STRESSFUL PERIOD IN THEIR LIVES. AS IN ALL THE SERVICES WE PROVIDE, WE ALSO LINK THE FAMILIES WE ASSIST WITH OTHER RESOURCES AVAILABLE AND DELAY PLACEMENT IN LONG-TERM CARE FACILITIES.
