THE PURPOSE OF PENNSYLVANIA WEST SOCCER ASSOCIATION IS TO PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL AND CHARACTER-BUILDING PROGRAMS FOR YOUTH AND ADULTS FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE COMMUNITY THROUGH TEACHING AND PROMOTING AN INTEREST IN THE GAME OF SOCCER, PARTICULARLY AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE UNDER NINETEEN YEARS OF AGE.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
OPEN TOURNAMENT IS A COMPETITIVE TOURNAMENT FOR TRAVEL TEAMS PLAYING IN LEAGUES DURING THE SPRING OF EACH PLAYING SEASON. REVENUE TO OPERATE THE TOURNAMENT IS DERIVED FROM ENTRY FEES AND SOUVENIR SALES. THE TOURNAMENT IS OPEN TO TEAMS FROM AGE U10-U19 IN EITHER GENDER WITH TEAMS COMPETING BASED ON SKILL LEVEL. THE TOURNAMENT USUALLY HAS BETWEEN 200 AND 220 TEAMS COMPETE.
THE YOUTH DIVISION IS RESPONSIBLE FOR OVERSEEING THE CREATION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF RULES AND PROCEDURES NECESSARY FOR THE OPERATION OF THE VARIOUS LEAGUES PROVIDED TO THE YOUTH (AGE 4-19) OF WESTERN PA. THE REVENUE IS GATHERED FROM CLUB AFFILIATION FEES, PLAYER REGISTRATION FEES, TEAM REGISTRATION FEES, AND ANY FINES LEVIED DUE TO FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THE DIVISION'S STATED RULES. THE LEAGUES INCLUDE RECREATIONAL AND COMPETITIVE LEAGUES; TEAMS ARE DESIGNATED BY AGE AND ABILITY. THERE ARE GENERALY 47,000 PLAYERS PARTICIPATING ON 1,200 TEAMS.
GIRLS ODP: THE OLYMPIC DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM IS PLAYER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM THAT IDENTIFIES AND TRAINS ELITE LEVEL PLAYERS FOR PARTICIPATION ON STATE TEAMS AND IS THE FIRST STEP IN IDENTIFICATION TOWARDS NATIONAL TEAM PARTICIPATION.
OTHER PROGRAMS OFFERED INCLUDE FUTSAL, COACHING PROGRAMS, STATE CUP TOURNAMENT, TOUCHLINE NEWSLETTER, REGIONAL AND NATIONAL CHAMPIONS, PRESIDENT'S CUP TOURNAMENT, ADULT DIVISION, TOPSOCCER, FIELD DEVELOPMENT, BOYS ODP, AND PA WEST SCHOLARSHIP.
