THE ERIE COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY INSPIRES AND ENGAGES THROUGH DYNAMIC EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS, COMMUNITY OUTREACH, AND WITH RELEVEANT EXHIBITS AND PUBLICATIONS. WE PRESERVE OUR COLLECTIONS AND ARCHIVES TO SERVE AS A COMPREHENSIVE, ACCESSIBLE RESOURCH FOR ALL.

THE ERIE COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY-HAGEN HISTORY CENTER IS LOCATED ON A 2.4 ACRE CAMPUS WITH FOUR MUSEUM BUILDINGS, CONTAINING MORE THAN 37,000 SQUARE FEET. THE NEWEST EXHIBIT FEATURES FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT'S ORIGINAL SAN FRANCISCO OFFICE AND MULTIPLE ARTIFACTS FROM ONE OF THE RETIRED OFFICE ADMINISTRATORS. THE DISPLAY ALSO INCLUDES FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT'S BUTTERFLY WING BRIDGE MODEL AND A GALLERY WITH COMMODORE OLIVER HAZARD PERRY'S TELESCOPE AND SWORD FROM THE BATTLE OF LAKE ERIE. THE WATSON-CURTZE MANSION, A 12,000 SQUARE FOOT VICTORIAN HOME BUILT IN 1891, INCLUDES INCREDIBLE ARCHITECTURE, PERIOD DECOR AND MULTIPLE COLLECTIONS WITH A FOCUS ON CHILDREN'S EXHIBITS, GRISWOLD CAST IRON, VICTORIAN CLOTHING, CIVIL WAR MEMORIABILIA AND SERVANTS' QUARTERS. THE WOOD-MORRISON HOUSE IS AN 1850'S HOME HOUSING MILITARY EXHIBITS TELLING STORIES OF MEN AND WOMEN WHO SERVED IN ARMED FORCES SPANNING FROM THE FRENCH AND INDIAN WAR UP TO CURRENT TIMES. ALSO CHRONICLED IS THE RISE AND FALL OF THE ERIE EXTENSION CANAL, WHICH FLOWED NEXT TO THE BUILDING IN THE 1830'S. COMING UP: A NEW EXHIBIT WILL FOCUS ON "ERIE:THE STORY OF US".
THE CARRIAGE HOUSE INCLUDES RESEARCH FACILITIES, A READING ROOM, LIBRARY AND A GIFT SHOP. THE ARCHIVES BUILDING CONTAINS MORE THAN 200 YEARS OF HISTORY AND MULITIPLE COLLECTIONS OF DIARIES, LETTERS, BOOKS, REPORTS, PHOTOGRAPHS AND OTHER HISTORICAL RESOURCES. THE ARCHIVE STAFF IS CURRENTLY DIGITIZING COLLECTIONS TO MAKE HISTORY ACCESSIBLE TO RESEARCHERS WHO CANNOT PHYSICALLY VISIT THE CENTER.
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS ARE PART OF THE MUSEUM'S OUTREACH EFFORTS. MANY STUDENTS VISIT THE CAMPUS ANNUALLY FOR CURRICULUM-SPECIFIC LESSONS, AND STAFF MEMBERS TAKE HISTORY INTO THE CLASSROOMS WITH ARTIFACTS AND PRESENTATIONS THAT ENGAGE ELEMENTARY PUPILS TO COLLEGE COEDS IN INSPIRING AND INTERACTIVE PROGRAMS. THE CENTER ALSO PRESENTS REGULAR EVENTS WITH EXPERTS WHO DISCUSS CURRENT AND HISTORICAL TOPICS IN LIVE AND RECORDED FORMATS.
