PREVOCATIONAL SERVICES ASSIST INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES TO LEARN JOB SKILLS NEEDED FOR EMPLOYMENT OUTSIDE THE SHELTERED ENVIRONMENT, THUS INCREASING THEIR INDEPENDENCE AND INTEGRATION INTO THE COMMUNITY. REFERRALS AND FUNDING ARE ORIGINATED BY THE RESPECTIVE MENTAL HEALTH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY ADMINISTRATIVE ENTITIES. DURING THE REPORTING YEAR 140/150 PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES PARTICIPATED IN THE SHELTERED ENVIRONMENT EXAMPLES OF SKILLS LEARNED INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO ASSEMBLING PRODUCTS, WEIGHING AND HEAT SEALING PRODUCTS, SCREEN PRINTING PRODUCTS, WIRING, PACKAGING AND REPACKAGING, HANDLING, AND PREPARING ITEMS FOR SHIPPING. FOOD SERVICE TRAINING INCLUDES BUSSING TABLES, PREPRARING FOODS, SERVING FOODS, OPERATING A COMMERCIAL DISHWASHER. APPAREL MANUFACTURING SUCH AS CUTTING MATERIAL, SEWING, PRESSING AND FOLDING SHIRTS.
HOME AND COMMUNITY HABILITATION SERVICES ARE DIRECT SERVICES PROVIDED TO PERSONS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES TO ACQUIRE, RETAIN, OR IMPROVE UPON SKILLS NEEDED TO LIVE AND WORK IN THE COMMUNITY AND PREVENT INSTITUTIONALIZATION. EACH PERSON CHOOSES A SUPPORT SERVICE WORKER WHO WILL ASSIST THEM ON ACHIEVING OUTCOMES AS SPECIFIED IN THE INDIVIDUALIZED SERVICE PLAN. THESE ACTIVITIES ARE HABILITATIVE OR THERAPEUTIC IN NATURE.
SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT IS COMPRISED OF TWO COMPONENTS EMPLOYER OUTREACH, RESUME PREPARATION, AND JOB SEARCHING. JOB SUPPORT CONSISTS OF TRAINING INDIVIDUALS IN JOB ASSIGNMENTS, PERIODIC FOLLOW-UP AND ONGOING SUPPORT WITH THE INDIVIDUAL WITH THE DISABILITY AND THE EMPLOYER.
