FOUNDED BY ANDREW CARNEGIE IN 1895, CARNEGIE MUSEUMS OF PITTSBURGH IS A COLLECTION OF FOUR DISTINCTIVE MUSEUMS DEDICATED TO EXPLORATION THROUGH ART AND SCIENCE: CARNEGIE MUSEUM OF ART, CARNEGIE MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY, CARNEGIE SCIENCE CENTER AND THE ANDY WARHOL MUSEUM.IN 2021, THE MUSEUMS REACHED 836,469 PEOPLE THROUGH EXHIBITIONS, EDUCATION PROGRAMS, OUTREACH ACTIVITIES AND SPECIAL EVENTS.

CARNEGIE SCIENCE CENTER (CSC) INSPIRES CURIOSITY AND CONNECTS SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY TO EVERYDAY LIFE. RECOGNIZED AS A LEADER IN PROMOTING LITERACY IN STEM, CSC IS DEDICATED TO NURTURING THE NEXT GENERATION OF INNOVATORS AND LEADERS WHO WILL RISE TO MEET TOMORROW'S WORKFORCE NEEDS. INTERNATIONALLY, THE SCIENCE CENTER'S TRAVELING EXHIBITS AND PLANETARIUM SHOWS HAVE REACHED MILLIONS OF PEOPLE IN 53 COUNTRIES AND COUNTING. IN JULY 2021, THE RANGOS GIANT CINEMA REOPENED AFTER A LONG CLOSURE DUE TO COVID-19, WITH "THE SEARCH FOR THE SNOW," A FILM THAT BRINGS AWARENESS TO CLIMATE CHANGE. IN THE FALL OF 2021, CSC OPENED THE POPULAR "POMPEII: THE EXHIBITION," WHICH TELLS THE STORY OF THE ANCIENT ROMAN CITY AND ITS INFAMOUS DEMISE, THROUGH INTERACTIVE EXHIBITS AND MORE THAN 150 ARTIFACTS. CSC NOTABLY CONVENED PANELS OF RENOWNED EXPERTS FROM ACADEMIA, MEDICINE, AND PUBLIC HEALTH TO ADDRESS TOPICS RELATED TO THE COVID-19 VACCINES. THROUGH A GRANT, CSC EXPANDED ON ITS COVID-19 VACCINATION AWARNESS PROGRAMMING BY SHOWING THE FILM "CHASING COVID..ON THE ROAD," ALONG WITH HANDS-ON EXPERIENCES DEVELOPED IN COLLABORATION WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH CENTER FOR VACCINE RESEARCH, AT EACH OF THE OTHER THREE MUSEUMS. ATTENDANCE REBOUNDED TO 364,369 IN 2021.
CARNEGIE MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY (CMNH) CONTINUES TO BE RANKED AMONG THE TOP NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUMS IN THE COUNTRY. IT MAINTAINS, PRESERVES, AND INTERPRETS AN EXTRAORDINARY COLLECTION OF MORE THAN 22 MILLION OBJECTS AND SCIENTIFIC SPECIMENS USED TO BROADEN THE UNDERSTANDING OF EVOLUTION, CONSERVATION, AND BIODIVERSITY. CMNH GENERATES NEW SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE, ADVANCES SCIENCE LITERACY, AND INSPIRES VISITORS OF ALL AGES TO BECOME PASSIONATE ABOUT SCIENCE, NATURE, AND WORLD CULTURES. IN 2021, CMNH EXTENDED ITS RUN OF THE "DINOSAUR ARMOR" EXHIBITION, AND IN THE FALL, BROUGHT ANOTHER GREAT NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC SHOW TO PITTSBURGH, "MONSTOR FISH: IN SEARCH OF THE LAST RIVER GIANTS." THE MUSEUM ALSO COMPLETED INSTALLATION OF "WE ARE NATTURE: A NEW NATURAL HISTORY," WHICH TELLS STORIES OF THE ANTHROPOCENE THROUGH 15 FOCAL POINTS INTERSPERSED THROUGHOUT THE MUSEUM GALLERIES. ALSO, IN 2021, GRETCHEN BAKER WAS ANNOUNCED AS THE NEW DANIEL G. AND CAROLE L. KAMIN DIRECTOR OF CMNH. TOTAL 2021 ATTENDANCE REBOUNDED TO 178,308.
CARNEGIE MUSEUM OF ART (CMOA) OWNS AND CARES FOR A COLLECTION OF MORE THAN 30,000 ARTWORKS, RANGING FROM CLASSIC TO CONTEMPORARY. ONE OF THE MOST DYNAMIC MAJOR ART INSTITUTIONS IN THE COUNTRY, CMOA SERVES BOTH AS A STRATEGIC PARTNER IN REGIONAL EDUCATION INITIATIVES, AND A NATIONAL LEADER IN TRAINING EDUCATORS TO USE ART MUSEUM VISITS TO BUILD 21ST CENTURY LEARNING SKILLS. THE MUSEUM EXPLORES THE WORLD THROUGH THE LENS OF WARHOL, MOUNTING INNOVATIVE ORIGINAL EXHIBITIONS AND THOUGHT-PROVOKING TRAVELING EXHIBITIONS, PRESENTING GENRE-BASED PERFORMANCES, AND SHOWCASING UP-AND-COMING ACTS INCLUDING YOUNG ARTISTS FROM PITTSBURGH, WARHOL'S HOMETOWN.
