HATTON W. SUMNER INSTITUTES: TEXAS EDUCATORS ARE PROVIDED WITH QUALITY STAFF DEVELOPMENT AND INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS. PROGRAMS INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: (1) HATTON W. SUMNER INSTITUTE ON FOUNDING DOCUMENTS; (2) TEXAS CITIZEN BEE AND BEE IN A BOX AND (3) BEING AN AMERICAN (4) CONSTITUTION DAY.
STATE BAR OF TEXAS LEGAL BEAGLE CHILDREN'S BOOK:DEVELOPMENT OF A CHILDREN'S BOOK TO HELP EDUCATE STUDENTS ABOUT THE ROLE OF LAWYERS AND THE LEGAL PROFESSION BY EXPLAINING WHAT ATTORNEYS DO. THE TARGET AUDIENCE OF THIS BOOK WOULD BE ELEMENTARY STUDENTS. THE MAIN CHARACTER WOULD BE LEGAL BEAGLE WHO ALONG WITH HIS FELLOW CANINE FRIENDS AND ATTORNEY OWNERS WOULD EXPLORE WHAT IT TAKES TO BECOME AN ATTORNEY INCLUDING ATTENDING LAW SCHOOL. ADDITIONALLY, DIFFERENT TYPES OF ATTORNEY PRACTICES WILL BE EXPLORED. CHARACTERS WOULD BE CREATED TO PORTRAY DIVERSITY IN THE LEGAL PROFESSION SO THAT ALL STUDENTS COULD SEE THEMSELVES AS A LAWYER.THIS RESOURCE WOULD BE BENEFICIAL FOR ATTORNEYS TO USE WHEN THEY ARE ASKED TO PRESENT TO ELEMENTARY STUDENTS. THE BOOK WOULD INCLUDE A SPANISH VERSION AS WELL AS THE AUDIO VERSION IN BOTH ENGLISH AND SPANISH.
TEXAS BAR FOUNDATION JURY SERVICE: A CALL TO DUTYLAW FOCUSED EDUCATION, INC., THE JURY SELECTION COMMITTEE, AND THE LAW FOCUSED EDUCATION COMMITTEE ARE WORKING TOGETHER TO CREATE A WEBPAGE AND TWO WHITEBOARD VIDEOS TO HELP EDUCATE STUDENTS AND THE PUBLIC ABOUT THE ROLE OF JURY SERVICE IN OUR DEMOCRACY. HELPING MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC UNDERSTAND THEIR RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES UNDER THE LAW WOULD BE A CRITICAL COMPONENT OF THIS PROJECT.
