EDUCATIONAL SERVICES - THE MARTIN DE PORRES SCHOOL FOR EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN (MDP) IS A NON-PUBLIC SCHOOL CHARTERED BY THE NEW YORK STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION TO SERVE STUDENTS AGED 7-21 WHO ARE CLASSIFIED BY THE LOCAL COMMITTEES ON SPECIAL EDUCATION WITH THE HANDICAPPING CONDITIONS OF EMOTIONAL DISTURBANCE OR MULTIPLE DISABILITIES. STUDENTS ARE REFERRED TO MDP BY THEIR LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICTS. DUE TO THE SEVERITY OF THEIR NEEDS, THE STUDENTS ARE REFERRED TO MDP. THEY ARE UNABLE TO BE EDUCATED IN-DISTRICT WITHIN THE PUBLIC SPECIAL EDUCATION SYSTEM. AT MDP, STUDENTS ARE PROVIDED WITH A FULL COMPLEMENT OF EDUCATIONAL AND VOCATIONAL EXPERIENCES ALONG WITH THE RELATED SERVICES OF COUNSELING, SPEECH, OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY AND PHYSICAL THERAPY AS MANDATED. MARTIN DE PORRES CONSISTS OF THE FOLLOWING SCHOOL PROGRAMS:THE MARTIN DE PORRES ELEMENTARY / JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOLTHIS PROGRAM IS LOCATED AT 621 ELMONT ROAD IN ELMONT, NEW YORK. IT IS APPROVED TO SERVE STUDENTS FROM AGE 7-21. IT HAS 15 CLASSES WITH A STUDENT TO TEACHER RATIO OF 12:1:1.5. MDP IS APPROVED TO SERVE UP TO 180 STUDENTS. THE SCHOOL OPERATES ON A TWELVE-MONTH BASIS, AS STUDENTS REQUIRE SUCH A PROGRAM TO MEET THEIR NEEDS. MARTIN DE PORRES HIGH SCHOOL (MDPHS) THE MARTIN DE PORRES HIGH SCHOOL IS LOCATED AT 140 BEACH 112TH STREET IN ROCKAWAY PARK, QUEENS, NEW YORK. MDPHS IS APPROVED TO SERVE 276 STUDENTS AND APPROVED TO SERVE STUDENTS AGED 13-21. IT IS APPROVED FOR 23 CLASSROOMS. MDP RELOCATED THEIR HIGH SCHOOL TO VALLEY STREAM IN SEPTEMBER 2019 AND HAD A NEW TOTAL STUDENT CAPACITY OF 144. MDPHS PROVIDES STUDENTS WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN VOCATIONAL SKILLS AS WELL AS EARN A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA. THE HIGH SCHOOL ALSO OPERATES ON A 12-MONTH BASIS AS STUDENTS ARE MANDATED FOR SUCH A SERVICE.
RESIDENTIAL - MARTIN DE PORRES CASA DE LASALLE EDUCATIONAL RESIDENCECASA DE LASALLE IS AN EDUCATIONAL RESIDENCE LOCATED AT 104TH STREET IN OZONE PARK, QUEENS, AND NEW YORK. THE PROGRAM CAN SERVE UP TO 24 MALES AGES 13-21. IT IS A PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES BOTH EDUCATIONAL AND RESIDENTIAL SERVICES AND IS A JOINT VENTURE BETWEEN THE NEW YORK STATE EDUCATIONAL DEPARTMENT AND THE NEW YORK STATE OFFICE OF FAMILY AND CHILDREN'S SERVICES.
