CHESAPEAKE WATER ENVIRONMENT ASSOCIATION'S (CWEA) MISSION IS TO LEAD THE CHESAPEAKE REGION IN EDUCATING AND CONNECTING MEMBERS TO IMPROVE THE WATER ENVIRONMENT. THE ASSOCIATION STRIVES TO DO THIS THROUGH PUBLIC EDUCATION, THE EXCHANGE OF TECHNICAL AND SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION AMOUNG WATER QUALITY PROFESSIONALS, THE TRAINING OF WASTEWATER AND WATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATORS, AND BY OFFERING TECHNICAL EXPERTISE AND ADVICE TO THE LAW-MAKING AND REGULATORY PROCESSES.

ANNUAL CONFERENCE - CWEA MEMBERS JOINED TOGETHER WITH CHESAPEAKE SECTION AMERICAN WATER WORKS ASSOCIATION (CSAWWA) AND WATER AND WASTE OPERATORS ASSOCIATION (WWOA) MEMBERS IN 2023 FOR THE ANNUAL TRI-CONFERENCE, HELD AT THE ROLAND POWELL CONVENTION CENTER, OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND. THE CONFERENCE WAS HELD FROM AUGUST 29, 2023 - SEPTEMBER 1, 2023. EVENT HIGHLIGHTS: APPROXIMATELY 1,700 MEMBERS AND PARTNERS OF THE THREE ASSOCIATIONS ATTENDED. THERE WERE 230 EXHIBITOR BOOTHS AND 130 TECHNICAL SESSIONS AND 4 OPERATOR CLASSES. OPERATOR COMPETITIONS INCLUDED THE ANNUAL OPERATIONS CHALLENGE, TOP OPS.
DURING 2023, THE WATER ENVIRONMENT FEDERATION (WEF), OF WHICH CWEA IS A MEMBER, CONDUCTED ITS 96TH ANNUAL TECHNICAL EXHIBITION AND CONFERENCE IN CHICAGO, IL FROM SEPTEMBER 30,2023 - OCTOBER 4, 2023. THERE WERE APPROXIMATELY 21,000 REGISTRANTS AND 870 EXHIBITING COMPANIES. CWEA SENT THE STUDENT DESIGN COMPETITION TEAM. THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, WEFMAX (MEMBER ASSOCIATION EXCHANGE) HELD THREE MEETINGS THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES. THE TWO WEF DELEGATES ATTENDED ONE EVENT AND THE YOUNG PROFESSIONAL COMMITTEE CHAIR ATTENDED ONE OF THE OTHER CONFERENCES.
THE VARIOUS COMMITTEES OF CWEA PRESENTED TRAINING PROGRAMS, JOINT FORUMS AND SEVERAL SEMINARS AND TECHNICAL WEBINARS IN 2023. LISTED BELOW ARE SOME HIGHLIGHTS: 1.) SPRING MEETING. THE ANNUAL MEETING WITH CSAWWA WAS HELD MAY,2023 AT BRIGHTON DAM, MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD. 2.) WATER REUSE WORKSHOP WAS HELD WITH CSAWWA AT ELKS LODGE, MD. 3.) THERE WAS A STORM WATER SEMINAR - MITAGS. 4.) YOUNG PROFESESSIONAL COMMITTEE HELD SEVERAL NETWORKING, COMMUNITY SERVICE AND EDUCATIONAL EVENTS. 5.) THERE WERE TWO PUBLIC OUTREACH EVENTS - WATER PALOOZA WAS HELD IN APRIL, 2023 AT THE DC WATER HEADQUARTERS. APPROXIMATELY 100 STUDENTS ATTENDED. THERE WERE 7 ACTIVITY STATIONS THAT FOCUSED ON WATER AND WASTEWATER. PUBLIC WORKS EXPERIENCE BIG TRUCK DAY WAS HELD IN MAY, 2023. CWEA HAD A BOOTH WITH AN ACITVITY DESIGNED FOR CHILDREN. THERE WERE EIGHT TECHNICAL WEBINARS PRESENTED IN 2022 AS WELL AS SEVERAL CONFERENCES AND SYMPOSIUMS.
