THE REGISTRY OF INTERPRETERS FOR THE DEAF, INC. PROMOTES EXCELLENCE IN THE DELIVERY OF INTERPRETING SERVICES AMONG DIVERSE USERS OF SIGNED AND SPOKEN LANGUAGES THROUGH PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, NETWORKING, ADVOCACY, AND STANDARDS.

CERTIFICATION: RID'S CERTIFICATION PROGRAM IS RESPONSIBLE FOR CONFERRING NATIONAL CERTIFICATION TO PRACTITIONERS ENGAGING IN THE PROVISION OF SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETATION. CERTIFICATION IS PART OF THE TRIAD OF CREDENTIALED PRACTITIONER QUALITY MANAGEMENT PROCESSES ESTABLISHED AND FOLLOWED BY THE ASSOCIATION. THE CERTIFICATION PROGRAM AWARDS CREDENTIALS TO INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE DEMONSTRATED ACHIEVEMENT OF MINIMUM COMPETENCIES. AN INDIVIDUAL'S CERTIFICATION IS MAINTAINED BY MAINTAINING AN ACTIVE ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP WITH RID AND EARNING SUFFICIENT CONTINUING EDUCATION HOURS EVERY FOUR YEARS. AT THE END OF FY2022, THERE WERE 10,342 INDIVIDUALS HOLDING RID CERTIFICATION.
MEETINGS: RID HOLDS A BIENNIAL CONFERENCE WHERE MEMBERS AND STAKEHOLDERS PARTICIPATE IN THE ASSOCIATION'S BUSINESS MEETING. ADDITIONALLY, CONTINUING EDUCATION WORKSHOPS, RESEARCH PRESENTATIONS AND OTHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE INTERPRETING PROFESSION ARE OFFERED. IN FY2022, RID HOSTED A VIRTUAL NATIONAL CONFERENCE.
MEMBER SERVICES: RID IS A PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR PRACTITIONERS WITHIN THE SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETING AND TRANSLITERATING FIELD. RID PROVIDES BOTH MEMBERS AND THE PUBLIC WITH RESOURCES THAT SUPPORT THE ACHIEVEMENT OF EXCELLENCE WITHIN THE PROFESSION, SUCH AS A QUARTERLY PROFESSIONAL PUBLICATION (THE VIEWS), AN ANNUAL SCHOLARLY RESEARCH JOURNAL (THE JOI), STANDARD PRACTICE AND WHITE PAPERS, DISCOUNTS ON ITEMS SOLD IN THE BOOKSTORE AND EXAM REGISTRATIONS, AND VOLUNTEER LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES.
