THE ORGANIZATION CONDUCTS AND ENCOURAGES HISTORICAL RESEARCH AND COLLECTS, PRESERVES AND EXHIBITS HISTORICAL MATERIALS IN CONNECTION WITH THE TOWN OF SKANEATELES. EXHIBIT AREAS IN THE MUSEUM AT THE CREAMERY AREON THE TOPICS OF BOATING, TRANSPORTATION, AGRICULTURE, INDUSTRY, RURAL SCHOOLS, AREA VETERANS, AND SKANEATELES LAKE. THERE ARE ALSO CHANGING EXHIBITS, IN THE MAIN BUILDING, THE SKANEATELES VILLAGE HALL, AND ONE OFF-SITE IN A LOCAL STORE. MONTHLY MEETINGS FOR OUR MEMBERSHIP AND THE COMMUNITY ENTITLED PROGRAM NIGHTS ARE SCHEDULED AND ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AND FREE OF CHARGE.
THE SKANEATELES HISTORICAL SOCIETY IS WELL KNOWN FOR ITS EXCELLENT INDEXES OF BIRTHS, MARRIAGES, DEATHS, AND CEMETERY RECORDS. MANY OF THESE RECORDS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE ON OUR WEBSITE. IN ADDITION, EXTENSIVE FILES ARE KEPT ON A WIDE VARIETY OF SUBJECTS RELATING TO LIFE IN SKANEATELES. OUR COLLECTION OF BOOKS, SCRAPBOOKS, AND PHOTOGRAPHS ARE BEING COMPILED INTO A COMPUTERIZED DATABASE TO IMPROVE PUBLIC ACCESS.
THE ORGANIZATION MAINTAINS A GIFT SHOP IN THE MUSEUM BUILDING THAT OFFERS A VARIETY OF ITEMS RELATING TO SKANEATELES. IT HAS A PARTICULARLY FINE COLLECTON OF BOOKS AND PAMPHLETS, IN ADDITION TO CARDS, AFGHANS, AND OTHER MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS. PROCEEDS ARE USED TO SUPPORT THE GENERAL OPERATING EXPENSES OF THE FACILITY.
