MENTORING- PROGRAM MATCHING ADULT VOLUNTEERS WITH CHILDREN IN THE POLK COUNTY IOWA JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM - APPROXIMATELY 175 ADULT VOLUNTEERS, APPROXIMATELY 115 CHILDREN CURRENTLY MATCHED. VOLUNTEERS OFFER A UNIQUE ONE-TO-ONE MENTORING RELATIONSHIP WITH THE GOAL OF GIVING NEGLECTED, ABUSED, AND FORGOTTEN CHILDREN ADDITIONAL GUIDANCE AND ATTENTION.
GROUP ACTIVITIES- PROGRAM PROVIDING MONTHLY GROUP ACTIVITIES TO GIVE THE CHILDREN THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO TO FUN PLACES, LEARN NEW THINGS, AND IMPROVE THEIR SOCIAL SKILLS. ACTIVITIES HAVE INCLUDED PICNICS, ARTS AND CRAFTS, HOLIDAY PARTIES, HORSEBACK RIDING, CAMPING, SPORTING EVENTS, AND OTHER.
