TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE IN WHITLEY COUNTY, INDIANA, BY FOCUSING ON ROOT CAUSES OF THE MOST SERIOUS PROBLEMS. WE BRING TOGETHER PEOPLE FROM ALL ACROSS THE COMMUNITY - PEOPLE FROM GOVERNMENT, BUSINESS, FAITH GROUPS, NONPROFITS AND ORDINARY CITIZENS TO TACKLE THESE ISSUES.

SUPPORT FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH PROGRAMS. THE UNITED WAY FUNDED SEVEN SEPARATE PROGRAMS WITH PARTNER AGENCIES. THE PROGRAMS WERE FUNDED IN ORDER TO ASSIST EACH CHILD IN WHITLEY COUNTY ACHIEVE THEIR HIGHEST POTENTIAL. THESE INCLUDED PROGRAMS THAT OFFERED SUPPORT FOR ACADEMIC SUCCESS, ENCOURAGEMENT FOR POSITIVE SELF-ESTEEM, AND TO PROVIDE ADVOCACY FOR THOSE AT RISK. THE UNITED WAY ALSO SUPPORTS A KINDERGARTEN COUNTDOWN PROGRAM TO HELP CHILDREN FROM LOW INCOME FAMILIES PREPARE FOR STARTING SCHOOL.

THESE PROGRAMS ADDRESSED THE BASIC NEEDS OF WHITLEY COUNTY FAMILIES IN CRISIS AND PROVIDED HEALTH SERVICES AND EDUCATION. ADDITIONALLY, THE UNITED WAY PROMOTES VOLUNTEERISM THROUGHOUT THE YEAR BY MATCHING VOLUNTEERS WITH OPPORTUNITIES. EACH YEAR IN SEPTEMBER THE UNITED WAY SPONSORS A ONE DAY EVENT CALLED THE "DAY OF CARING".


PROMOTE SELF-SUFFICIENCY PROGRAMS. THE UNITED WAY FUNDED FOUR PROGRAMS WITH PARTNER AGENCIES. THESE PROGRAMS TEACH SKILLS, MENTOR BEHAVIOR, AND PROVIDE ASSISTANCE THAT ENABLES INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES TO ACHIEVE THEIR HIGHEST LEVEL OF INDEPENDENCE.
