TO PRESERVE AND PROTECT HISTORICAL ARTIFACTS AND TO EDUCATE AND DISSEMINATE HISTORICAL INFORMATION TO RESIDENTS, STUDENTS, SCHOLARS AND OTHER INTERESTED INDIVIDUALS

THE SOCIETY FUNDS AND MAINTAINS A MUSEUM OF HISTORIC ARTIFACTS THAT RELATE TO HUMMELSTOWN AND THE SURROUNDING AREA. OUR COLLECTION OF MORE THAN 14,000 ARTIFACTS ARE HOUSED IN AN HISTORIC STRUCTURE THAT WAS BUILT IN 1815. ADJOINING THE BUILDING IS A CEMETERY WHICH IS THE FINAL RESTING PLACE OF OUR TOWN'S FOUNDER, CIVIL WAR VETERANS AND OTHER HISTORICALLY SIGNIFICANT INDIVIDUALS. ADMISSION TO THE MUSEUM IS FREE TO ALL. THE MUSEUM IS OPEN THREE DAYS A WEEK WITH ADDITIONAL VIEWING TIMES AVAILABLE BY APPOINTMENT. MUSEUM REVENUES ARE GENERATED FROM THE RENTAL OF THE MUSEUM FOR WEDDINGS, MEETING AND COMMUNITY ENVENTS.


EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS ARE GIVEN TO STUDENTS AT LOWER DAUPHIN SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL AND DONATIONS TO LOCAL NONPROFITS


THE SOCIETY FUNDS AND MAINTAINS A LIBRARY OF HISTORICAL BOOKS, RECORDS AND LIKE MATERIALS WHICH ARE AVAILABLE TO SCHOLARS, STUDENTS AND THE PUBLIC FOR RESEARCH ON HUMMELSTOWN, THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITES, GENEOLOGY RESEARCH AND PEOPLE OF LOCAL HISTORIC SIGNIFICANCE. THE LIBRARY IS OPEN TO ALL AND THERE IS NO FEES FOR THE USE OF THE LIBRARY MATERIALS. LIBRARY REVENUES ARE GENERATED FROM THE SALE OF BOOKLETS AND PAMPHLETS RELATED TO HISTORIC EVENTS, STRUCTURES, BUSINESSES, ETC. POSTCARDS OF HISTORICALLY SIGNIFICANT EVENTS, STRUCTURES, ETC. ARE ALSO SOLD. ADDITIONAL REVENUES ARE GENERATED FOR THE SALE OF COPIES AND MICROFILM PRINTS OF THE LIBRARY MATERIALS.


THE SOCIETY HOLDS A MONTHLY PROGRAM THAT IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AND FREE OF CHARGE TO ATTEND. THE MONLY PROGRAMS INCLUDE SPEAKERS AND PRESENTATIONS RELATING TO THE HUMMELSTOWN AREA AND ITS HISTORIC SIGNIFICANCE AS WELL AS PROGRAMS THAT DETAIL THE LIFE AND TIMES OF OUR EARLY ANCESTORS.
