PASADENA EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION (PEF) IS A NON-PROFIT COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATION WHICH JOINS THE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTORS IN A PARTNERSHIP TO (1) DEVELOP SUPPLEMENTARY FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR PASADENA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT (PUSD) PROGRAMS, (2) ENCOURAGE DEDICATED TEACHERS BY FUNDING CREATIVE PROJECTS AND (3) PROMOTE COMMUNITY-WIDE CONFIDENCE IN THE PUSD AND ITS SCHOOLS. SEE SCHEDULE I FOR A LISTING OF THIS FISCAL YEAR'S PROGRAM SERVICE GRANTS AND OTHER ASSISTANCE.IN ADDITION TO CONTRIBUTIONS DIRECTLY RECEIVED BY THE PEF FROM PRIVATE AND PUBLIC SECTORS, THE PEF, IN COORDINATION WITH THE PUSD, SOLICITS CONTRIBUTIONS THAT GO DIRECTLY FROM THE DONOR TO THE PUSD.
PEF HAS PROVIDED A SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAM FOR LOCAL STUDENTS EACH SUMMER SINCE 2003. DURING FISCAL YEAR 2020-21, THE PROGRAM DID NOT RUN IN 2020 AND RAN IN A MODIFIED IN-PERSON VERSION IN 2021 ACCORDING TO COVID GUIDELINES AT THAT TIME. FOR SUMMER OF 2021, THE PROGRAM SERVED APPROXIMATELY 813 ELEMENTARY, JUNIOR HIGH, AND HIGH SCHOOL PUSD STUDENTS. OVER 65 DIFFERENT ENRICHMENT CLASSES INCLUDING DRAMA, ART, MATH, CREATIVE WRITING, CHESS, GOLF, TENNIS, ROBOTICS, COMPUTER AND MULTIMEDIA, SPANISH, MANDARIN, AND FRENCH IMMERSION, FINANCIAL LITERACY, LEADERSHIP SKILLS, AND MANY MORE WERE OFFERED. FOR THE 2021 SUMMER ONLY, THE PROGRAM WAS FULLY FUNDED BY PUSD, ALLOWING FOR ALL STUDENTS TO ATTEND AT NO COST.THE EXPENSES AND REVENUES REFLECTED ABOVE RELATE TO THE SUMMER OF 2021. IN SUMMER OF 2022, PEF WILL RESUME OPERATING THE PROGRAM IN IT'S PRE-COVID FORMAT OF REASONABLE STUDENT PAID TUITION WITH TUITION ASSISTANCE AWARDED ON AN AS-NEEDED BASIS.
