THE PENNSYLVANIA ACADEMY OF FAMILY PHYSICIANS FOUNDATION (FOUNDATION), ALONG WITH THE PENNSYLVANIA ACADEMY OF FAMILY PHYSICIANS (ACADEMY), WILL SUPPORT ITS MEMBERS THROUGH ADVOCACY AND EDUCATION TO ENSURE PHYSICIAN-COORDINATED, PERSONALIZED, AND COMPREHENSIVE QUALITY HEALTH CARE FOR EVERY PENNSYLVANIAN.

THE FOUNDATION OFFERS EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR PRIMARY CARE PROVIDERS, COVERING COMPLIANCE, TECHNOLOGY, PRACTICE MANAGEMENT, AND CLINICAL ISSUES.
THE RESIDENCY EXPANSION GRANT PROJECT, FUNDED BY THE PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH, INVESTS IN PA FAMILY MEDICINE RESIDENCY INFRASTRUCTURE BY FUNDING RESIDENCY SLOTS TO SUPPORT EXPANSION AND TO STRENGTHEN THE PIPELINE TO TRAIN MORE FAMILY PHYSICIANS TO PRACTICE IN THE PENNSYLVANIA COMMUNITIES WHERE THEY ARE MOST NEEDED. THE PROJECT INCLUDES A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CURRICULUM FEATURING EVENTS AND OTHER OPPORTUNITIES FOR RESIDENTS TO ACCESS ESSENTIAL INFORMATION ABOUT PENNSYLVANIA PRACTICE OPPORTUNITIES IN TRADITIONALLY UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES AND NETWORKING WITH THE COMMUNITY OF FAMILY PHYSICIANS WHO PRACTICE IN THIS TYPE OF CLINIC SETTING. THIS PROJECT IS DESIGNED TO PIPELINE PARTICIPANTS TO THE PENNSYLVANIA PRIMARY CARE CAREER CENTER AND THE PENNSYLVANIA PRIMARY CARE LOAN REPAYMENT PROGRAMS, BOTH ALSO FUNDED BY THE PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH.
SUPPORTS EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES THAT EXPOSE MEDICAL STUDENTS AND RESIDENTS TO THE PROFESSION OF FAMILY MEDICINE.DIRECT EXPOSURE TO FAMILY PRACTICE IS ONE OF THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAYS OF BUILDING MEDICAL STUDENT INTEREST AND ADDRESSING THE CRITICAL SHORTAGE OF FAMILY PHYSICIANS IN PENNSYLVANIA. INTRODUCES FUTURE PHYSICIANS TO THE FAMILY MEDICINE SPECIALTY BY PROVIDING MEDICAL STUDENTS WITH SCHOLARSHIPS TO ATTEND THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE OF FAMILY PRACTICE RESIDENTS AND MEDICAL STUDENTS, A MEETING TO ENCOURAGE MEDICAL STUDENTS TO PURSUE A CAREER IN FAMILY PRACTICE.THE FAMILY PRACTICE EDUCATIONAL FUND (FPEF) WAS CREATED IN 1991 TO SUPPORT MEDICAL SCHOOL ACTIVITIES FOR STUDENTS INTERESTED IN PURSUING A CAREER IN FAMILY PRACTICE. MEDICAL SCHOOL GRADUATES, LOCAL COMPONENT CHAPTERS OF THE ACADEMY, AND MEMBERS OF THE ACADEMY AND THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF FAMILY PHYSICIANS DONATE THE FUNDS FOR THIS PROGRAM. FPEF CRITERIA REQUIRE FUNDS BE USED ONLY TO SUPPORT GROUP ACTIVITIES SUCH AS EDUCATIONAL MEETINGS, SPEAKER FEES, ETC., AND NOT FOR INDIVIDUAL ACTIVITIES.
