THE MISSION OF THE PAD IS TO ADVOCATE FOR PA DERMATOLOGISTS AND TO FOSTER EXCELLENCE IN THEIR DELIVERY OF PATIENT CARE.

THE ACADEMY HOSTS AN ANNUAL SCIENTIFIC MEETING WITH THE GOAL OF EDUCATION, MEMBERSHIP MEETING, AND NETWORKING. IN 2021 WE HELD A SMALLER IN-PERSON EDUCATION MEETING DUE TO COVID-19 AND HAD 99 REGISTERED ATTENDEES. THE ACADEMY ALSO OFFERED VIRTUAL EDUCATION THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.
THE ACADEMY CONDUCTS LOBBYING AND ADVOCACY TO PROMOTE PATIENT SAFETY AND AWARENESS WHICH ULTIMATELY BENEFIT THE CITIZENS OF PENNSYLVANIA. IN 2020 THE PAD WORKED TO INTRODUCE LEGISLATION THAT WOULD RAISE THE MINIMUM AGE FOR USE OF AN INDOOR TANNING DEVICE TO 18 AND ALLOW FOR PENALTIES TO BE IMPOSED ON FACILITIES WHO VIOLATE THE ACT, TO PASS PRIOR AUTHORIZATION LEGISLATION, AND ISSUES PERTINENT TO HEALTHCARE DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.
THE ACADEMY WORKS WITH THIRD-PARTY PAYERS ON REIMBURSEMENT ISSUES IMPACTING THE PRACTICE OF DERMATOLOGY. A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE PAD SERVES ON THE REGIONAL MEDICARE CONTRACTOR ADVISORY COMMITTEE AND OFFERS COMMENTS ON POLICIES RELATED TO THE SPECIALTY.
THE ACADEMY HOSTS A MELANOMA WEDNESDAY SKIN SCREENING AT THE PENNSYLVANIA STATE CAPITOL TO RAISE AWARENESS OF MELANOMA AND OTHER SKIN CANCERS. VOLUNTEER DERMATOLOGISTS AND RESIDENTS PROVIDE SKIN CHECKS AND EDUCATIONAL MATERIAL ON SKIN CANCER PREVENTION TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC AND LEGISLATORS.
