MEETINGS AND EVENTS: THE MPL ASSOCIATION'S WORKSHOPS AND MEETINGS ARE DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR PROFESSIONALS IN THE MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL LIABILITY FIELD AND FEATURE LEADING INDUSTRY EXPERTS. THESE EVENTS EXPLORE A WIDE RANGE OF TOPICS TO HELP ASSOCIATION MEMBERS AND OTHERS WITH AN INTEREST IN THE INDUSTRY TO STAY ON TOP OF CRITICAL DEVELOPMENTS AND DISCOVER NEW AND BETTER WAYS OF DOING BUSINESS.
RESEARCH AND ANALYTICS: THE RESEARCH AND ANALYTICS DEPARTMENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SEVERAL KEY DELIVERABLES TO OUR MEMBER COMPANIES. THE PRIMARY DELIVERABLE IS THE DATA SHARING PROJECT (DSP), WHICH WAS LAUNCHED IN 1985 AND IS THE LONGEST ONGOING INDEPENDENT COLLABORATIVE DATABASE OF MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL LIABILITY CLAIMS AND LAWSUITS. THE DSP IS PRIMARILY USED BY MEMBER COMPANIES TO ENHANCE RISK MANAGEMENT PROGRAMS AND TO TRACK CLAIM COSTS. TO DATE, MPL ASSOCIATION MEMBERS HAVE SHARED MORE THAN 350,000 PHYSICIAN AND DENTAL PROFESSIONAL CLAIMS. MEMBERS OF THE ASSOCIATION HAVE ACCESS TO SNAPSHOTS AND STUDIES. PARTICIPATING MEMBERS OF THE DSP HAVE THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF ACCESS TO INFORMATION THROUGH THE DSP DASHBOARDS WHICH ALLOW FOR FURTHER COMPARATIVE ANALYSES. THE SECOND KEY DELIVERABLE IS THE MPL INDUSTRY OVERVIEW & ANALYSIS REPORT SERIES. THIS SERIES INCLUDES FOUR REPORTS THAT ARE DELIVERED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AND PROVIDE INSIGHTS ON TOPICS RELEVANT TO THE MPL INDUSTRY INCLUDING: YEAR-END FINANCIAL REPORTING, AN ANALYSIS OF THE INDUSTRY'S LOSS RESERVES, MID-YEAR FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE, AND A RELEVANT TOPIC SUCH AS REINSURANCE. THE THIRD KEY DELIVERABLE RELATES TO DATA AND ANALYTICS THAT PROVIDE THE MEMBERS WITH INDUSTRY-RELEVANT INTELLIGENCE AND THAT SUPPORT OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE.
MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS: THE MPL ASSOCIATION IS THE RECOGNIZED FORUM AND VOICE OF MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL LIABILITY INSURERS. IT PRODUCES PUBLICATIONS FOR MEMBERS, PARTNERS, AND INDUSTRY STAKEHOLDERS: MPL NEWSBRIEFS, A WEEKLY E-NEWSLETTER AGGREGATING INSURANCE, HEALTHCARE, AND LEGAL NEWS IMPORTANT TO THE INDUSTRY; AND INSIDE MEDICAL LIABILITY ONLINE, BIWEEKLY DIGITAL NEWS THAT SERVES AS THE LEADING INDUSTRY-WIDE AUTHORITATIVE SOURCE OF INFORMATION ON MPL INSURANCE ISSUES, PUBLIC POLICY, PATIENT SAFETY, TECHNOLOGY, RESEARCH, AND TRENDS.
PUBLIC POLICY: THE MPL ASSOCIATION ENGAGES WITH LEGISLATORS AT BOTH THE STATE AND FEDERAL LEVELS ON ISSUES OF IMPORTANCE TO THE MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL LIABILITY COMMUNITY, INCLUDING MEDICAL LIABILITY REFORM, CYBERSECURITY/DATA PRIVACY AND INSURANCE OVERSIGHT. THE ASSOCIATION ALSO ENGAGES WITH STATE AND FEDERAL REGULATORS ON A NUMBER OF ISSUES, RANGING FROM REPORTING REQUIREMENTS TO ADMINISTRATIVE COMPLIANCE TO PRIVACY MANDATES.
