THE ORGANIZATION HAS IMPLEMENTED PROGRAMS AND EMBRACED POSITIONS TO MEET THE NEEDS AND CONCERNS OF THE ESSEX COUNTY LEGAL COMMUNITY AND THE COMMUNITY-AT-LARGE. THE ORGANIZATION SERVES AS AN IMPORTANT PROFESSIONAL RESOURCE FOR OUR MEMBERS AND NONMEMBERS ALIKE GIVEN OUR LOCATION IN THE COURTHOUSE AND OUR UPGRADED TECHNOLOGICAL RESOURCES (WHICH CONTINUE TO IMPROVE). WE PROVIDE BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES; SUBSTANTIVE SUPPORT BY WAY OF SPECIALIZED COMMITTEES AND SECTIONS TO SUPPORT LAWYERS IN THEIR PRACTICE AREAS AND TO SERVE AS RESOURCES; A PROFESSIONALISM COMMITTEE WHICH TAKES REFERRALS FROM THE BENCH AND BAR ALIKE AND PROVIDES A FIRST STOP INTERVENTION-TYPE PROCESS WHICH DEALS WITH DEMEANOR AND PROFESSIONAL ISSUES THAT DO NOT RISE TO THE LEVEL OF AN ETHICS ISSUE OR WHICH MAY DEVELOP INTO SUCH AN ISSUE. ADDITIONALLY, THE ORGANIZATION WORKS CLOSELY WITH THE COURT ADMINISTRATION TO ADDRESS SUCH ISSUES OF FACILITIES AND ACCESS ISSUES FOR CLIENTS AND LAWYERS, COURT RESOURCES AND JUDICIAL STAFFING WHICH DIRECTLY IMPACTS ON ACCESS TO JUSTICE AND FAIR ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE AND TO REPRESENT THE INTEREST OF THE LEGAL COMMUNITY TO THE LOCAL COURT ADMINISTRATION AND COUNTY GOVERNMENT. THE LAWYER REFERRAL SERVICE ALLOWS MEMBERS TO SIGN UP TO ACCEPT CASES FROM CLIENTS ON A REDUCED FEE BASIS (LIMITED INITIAL CONSULTATION OF $25). ATTORNEYS SELECT VARIOUS AREAS OF SPECIALTY AND A GEOGRAPHIC AREA AND THE LRS ADMINISTRATOR REFERS CLIENTS ACCORDINGLY. GIVEN THAT THE BAR OFFICES ARE IN THE COURTHOUSE AND OUR STAFF IS BILINGUAL, THE LRS ADMINISTRATOR SPEAKS TO UPWARDS OF 150 INDIVIDUALS EACH WEEK. SOME GET REFERRED TO OUR PANEL MEMBERS BUT OTHERS MAY BE REFERRED TO ANY NUMBER OF OTHER PRO-BONO AND LOW-BONO SERVICE PROVIDERS AND TO THE COURT'S OMBUDSMAN.
