THE GARFIELD YMCA IS AN ASSOCIATION OF MEMBERS VOLUNTARILY BANDED TOGETHER FOR THE PURPOSE OF GROWING SPIRITUALLY, INTELLECTUALLY AND PHYSICALLY IN THE SPIRIT OF GOD. THE ASSOCIATION IS A CHRISTIAN CHARACTER BUILDER AND PERSONALITY DEVELOPING ORGANIZATION WHICH WELCOMES ALL WHO WISH TO PARTICIPATE REGARDLESS OF CULTURAL HERITAGE, CREED, RACE, GENDER OR INABILITY TO PAY.

EDUCATION PROGRAM: YMCA OF GARFIELD RUNS A BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM TO HELP WORKING PARENTS, THIS PROGRAM RUNS FROM 7:00AM -8:45 AM AND 2:45 - 6:30 PM MONDAY-FRIDAY. THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES A SAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR CHILDREN TO BE EDUCATED IN NUTRITION AND HEALTHY LIFESTYLES ALONG WITH TUTORING AND HOMEWORK TIME. PARENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO PARTICIPATE IN PROGRAMS WITH THEIR CHILDREN IN THE AREA OF PARENTING, HEALTHY EATING AND SNACKING, FAMILY EVENTS AND ENCOURAGING PHYSICAL ACTIVITY.
AQUATICS & FITNESS PROGRAMS: YMCA OF GARFIELD PROVIDES A STRONG AQUATICS PROGRAM, BYPROVIDING SWIM LESSONS FOR CHILDREN FROM 6 MONTHS-13 YEARS OF AGE. A CERTIFIED SWIM INSTRUCTOR TEACHES THE CLASS, WHICH IS HELD ONCE A WEEK FOR 45 MINUTES FOR AN 8 WEEK SESSION. YMCA OF GARFIELD ALSO OFFERS A STRONG YOUTH PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN AGES 5 AND UP. THE FITNESS CLASSES INCLUDE KARATE OUTDOOR/INDOOR RECREATION SOCCER AND T-BALL, AMONG OTHER ACTIVITIES.
OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES: OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES INCLUDE A 9 WEEK SUMMER PROGRAM FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS. ACTIVITIES INCLUDE SPORTING EVENTS, ARTS & CRAFTS, SWIMMING, WEEKLY TRIPS, OLYMPICS WEEK, MAD SCIENCE AND THEME WEEKS.
