SINCE 1968, THE ORGANIZATION WORKED WITH THE TOWNS OF INLET AND OLD FORGE TO MONITOR AND IMPROVE SOURCES OF POLLUTION, MOST NOTABLY SEPTIC SYSTEMS ON THE LAKE FRONT PROPERTIES, WATER SAMPLING, AND IDENTIFYING AND EDUCATING THE PUBLIC ON SOUND ENVIRONMENTAL PRACTICES TO MAINTAIN THE QUALITY OF THE WATER AND ENVIRONMENT IN GENERAL. THE NET RESULT IS A DRASTIC REDUCTION IN TOTAL FECAL COLIFORM COUNTS IN THE LAKES SINCE 1968, AS SHOWN IN OUR BI-WEEKLY WATER TESTING. MORE RECENTLY, THE NEW THREATS OF INVASIVE AQUATIC SPECIES AND LAWN FERTILIZERS HAS BEEN ACTIVELY ADDRESSED WITH REMOVING INVASIVE SPECIES AND EDUCATING THE PUBLIC ON THE EFFECT OF LAWN FERTILIZERS AND OTHER ENVIRONMENTAL THREATS.
