THE PRINCIPAL FUNCTION OF THE COLLEGE IS TO FURTHER RESEARCH AND EDUCATION IN NEUROPSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND RELATED FIELDS BY: A) PROMOTING THE INTERACTION OF A BROAD RANGE OF SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINES OF BRAIN AND BEHAVIOR IN ORDER TO ADVANCE THE UNDERSTANDING OF CAUSES, PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF DISEASES OF THE NERVOUS SYSTEM INCLUDING PSYCHIATRIC, NEUROLOGICAL, BEHAVIORAL AND ADDICTIVE DISORDERS; B) ENCOURAGING SCIENTISTS TO ENTER RESEARCH CAREERS IN FIELDS RELATED TO THESE DISORDERS AND THEIR TREATMENT; AND C) ENSURING THE DISSEMINATION OF RELEVANT SCIENTIFIC ADVANCES IN THESE DISORDERS.ACTIVITIES INCLUDE ANNUAL MEETING, JOURNAL, NPP REVIEWS, COMMITTEE & TASK FORCE PROJECTS.

ANNUAL MEETING: THE ANNUAL MEETING PROVIDES A VENUE FOR MEMBERS AND INVITED GUESTS TO PRESENT THE BEST BRAIN AND BEHAVIOR RESEARCH IN THE WORLD. IT IS DESIGNED TO ENCOURAGE DIALOGUE, DISCUSSION AND DEBATE AMONG ATTENDEES. THE 2021 MEETING HAD 2,075 SCIENTIFIC ATTENDEES. THIS WAS A HYBRID MEETING DUE TO THE ONGOING COVID-19 PANDEMIC WITH FIFTY-SEVEN PERCENT ATTENDING IN PERSON. EIGHTY-EIGHT PERCENT OF THE ATTENDEES COMPLETING THE MEETING EVALUATION RATED THE ACNP MEETING AS "BETTER THAN MOST OR "CLEARLY SUPERIOR" TO OTHER MEETINGS THEY ATTEND.
PUBLICATIONS: THIS PROGRAM PUBLISHES A MONTHLY JOURNAL, NEUROPSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY, AS WELL AS AN ANNUAL SUPPLEMENT, NEUROPSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY REVIEWS. BOTH OF THESE PUBLICATIONS CONTINUE TO EXTEND THE MISSION OF THE COLLEGE TO DISSEMINATE SCIENTIFIC ADVANCES IN THE FIELD. THE JOURNAL'S IMPACT FACTOR IN 2021 WAS 8.294, RANKING 19 OUT OF 155 IN PSYCHIATRY, 21 OUT OF 279 IN PHARMACOLOGY, AND 31 OUT OF 274 IN NEUROSCIENCE. THE JOURNAL IS ONE OF THE MOST WIDELY READ SCIENTIFIC JOURNALS IN THE WORLD.
TRAVEL AWARDS: THIS PROGRAM SEEKS TO ENCOURAGE AND MENTOR YOUNG SCIENTISTS IN THE FIELD, AS WELL AS MINORITY PARTICIPATION. IN 2021, THE PROGRAM SELECTED 60 TRAVEL AWARDEES TO THE ANNUAL MEETING.
PUBLIC EDUCATION (COMMITTEE PROGRAMS): THE ACNP COMMITTEES WORK TO PRESERVE AND PROMOTE PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE OF THE HISTORY AND FUTURE OF NEUROPSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND RELATED FIELDS. COUNCIL: THE COUNCIL TRANSACTS ALL BUSINESS OF THE COLLEGE, APPROVES OR DISAPPROVES ALL RECOMMENDATIONS OF ALL BUSINESS OF THE COLLEGE, FIXES ALL DUES AND ASSESSMENTS FOR THE COLLEGE, AND ADOPTS RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR THE ELECTION OF ALL CLASSES OF MEMBERSHIP. THE COUNCIL CREATES AND DIRECTS ALL STANDING COMMITTEES AS IS NECESSARY TO CONDUCT THE AFFAIRS OF THE COLLEGE, ELECTS EDITORS AND COMMITTEES ON PUBLICATIONS FOR ALL PUBLICATIONS OF THE COLLEGE, CALLS ALL MEETINGS OF THE COLLEGE, AND APPROVES ARRANGEMENTS FOR ANNUAL MEETINGS.
