Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

PETS ARE A VITAL PART OF MANY FAMILIES, YET EVERY YEAR MORE THAN ONE MILLION PETS GO WITHOUT CRITICAL VETERINARY CARE IN THE UNITED STATES. ALTHOUGH THERE IS A FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY IN CARING FOR A BELOVED PET, IT IS DEVASTATING WHEN AN OWNER'S FINANCIAL SITUATION MAKES THEM UNABLE TO PROVIDE VETERINARY CARE FOR A TREATABLE, YET LIFE-THREATENING CONDITION. THE "EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE FUND" WILL HELP TREAT ANIMALS WHO MIGHT OTHERWISE BE PUT DOWN OR SUFFER NEEDLESSLY. SEE SCHEDULE O FOR FURTHER DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS. THE ASSISTANCE PAYMENTS ARE GRANTED TO THE OWNERS OF THE PETS IN NEED BUT ARE PAID DIRECTLY TO THE DEPARTMENTS OF THE PITTSBURGH VETERINARY SPECIALTY AND EMERGENCY CLINIC (PVSEC) ON BEHALF OF THE PET OWNERS. THE "EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE FUND-; "CANCER CARE FUND (ASTA'S ANGEL FUND)-; AND "EYE CARE FUND (MAGGIE'S FUND)" REQUIRES THAT THE PET OWNERS PROVIDE AT LEAST 50% OF THE COST OF CARE IN ORDER TO RECEIVE AID FROM THE "EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE FUND".
