Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
ROOTED WISDOM AFRICA OFFERS AN INTEGRATED SET OF INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS DESIGNED TO SUPPORT INCOME GENERATION, FOOD SECURITY AND EMPLOYMENT. OUR MISSION IS TO EMPOWER CHILDREN AND FAMILIES IN RURAL UGANDA TO OVERCOME THE CONSTRAINTS OF POVERTY THROUGH EDUCATION AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT. SINCE OUR INCEPTION, ROOTED WISDOM AFRICA HAS WORKED WITH LOCAL PARTNERS TO SEND STUDENTS TO SCHOOL, PROVIDE SKILL-BASED TRAINING, AND FACILITATE SUSTAINABLE ENTERPRISE PROJECTS AS REQUESTED BY THE COMMUNITIES WE SERVE.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
ENTREPRENEURSHIP: ROOTED WISDOM AFRICA INVESTS IN FAMILIES, STUDENTS, FARMERS, AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS THROUGH ENTREPRENEURIAL TRAINING PROGRAMS TO SUPPORT INCOME GENERATION AND SELF-SUFFICIENCY. THESE PROGRAMS SUPPORT DISADVANTAGED POPULATIONS AS THEY LEARN VALUABLE BUSINESS SKILLS AND VOCATIONAL TRAINING IN AN EFFORT TO INCREASE THEIR INCOME, FOOD SECURITY, AND SCALABLE BUSINESSES. THE WOMEN'S ENTERPRISE TRAINING PROGRAM (WETP) EQUIPS WOMEN AND GIRLS LIVING IN EXTREME POVERTY WITH THE SKILLS NECESSARY TO SECURE INDEPENDENT AND SUSTAINABLE EMPLOYMENT. IN 2023, WETP SUPPORTED OVER 165 UGANDAN WOMEN AND OUT-OF-SCHOOL YOUTH. THE FARMER FIELD SCHOOL (FFS) SUPPORTS CURRENT OR ASPIRING FARMERS BY TEACHING HANDS-ON ENVIRONMENTALLY SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURAL TECHNIQUES USING A COST-EFFECTIVE APPROACH. IN 2023, 154 FARMERS WERE SUPPORTED THROUGH THE PROGRAM. THE MASTER FARMER PROGRAM (MFP) WAS LAUNCHED IN 2023. THE MFP AIMS TO SUPPORT RURAL COMMUNITY MEMBERS, PARTICULARLY WOMEN, IN ENHANCING THEIR AGRICULTURAL SKILLS AND APPLYING AGRICULTURAL TECHNIQUES AND BUSINESS PRACTICES. UNLIKE RWA'S FARMER FIELD SCHOOL, WHICH REQUIRES SUBSTANTIAL TIME COMMITMENTS, THE MFP WAS DESIGNED TO ACCOMMODATE PART-TIME OR NOVICE FARMERS BY OFFERING A MORE FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE.
EDUCATION: ROOTED WISDOM AFRICA SUPPORTS FORMAL AND INFORMAL EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES BY PARTNERING WITH SECONDARY SCHOOLS AND VOCATIONAL COLLEGES. AT THE SECONDARY LEVEL, OUR LIFE SKILLS PROGRAM FEATURES AN EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP, LIFE SKILLS CLASSES, VOCATIONAL AND TECHNICAL TRAINING. IN 2023, 404 STUDENTS WERE SUPPORTED, AND OVER 156,260 MEALS WERE PROVIDED. BEYOND SECONDARY SCHOOL, ROOTED WISDOM AFRICA SUPPORTS THE BEST AND MOST ACADEMICALLY MINDED STUDENTS THROUGH SCHOLARSHIPS AT LOCAL VOCATIONAL COLLEGES. IN 2023, 29 STUDENTS WERE SUPPORTED THROUGH ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS.
