TO BUILD A MORE JUST AND EQUITABLE MEDICINES SYSTEM FOR ALL.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
IN 2021, I-MAK'S PUBLIC EDUCATION PROGRAM AIMED TO MAKE THE ROLE OF PATENTS CENTRAL IN THE DRUG PRICING CONVERSATION. I-MAK TESTIFIED IN A HEARING BY THE HOUSE COMMITTEE ON OVERSIGHT AND REFORM ON DRUG PRICING AND PATENTING PRACTICES, WHICH CULMINATED IN A CONGRESSIONAL REPORT THAT CITED I-MAK'S RESEARCH THROUGHOUT. WE USED COMMUNICATIONS AND STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT TO REVEAL HOW STRUCTURAL INEQUITIES AT EVERY LEVEL OF THE MEDICINES SYSTEM - BROUGHT INTO SHARP FOCUS BY THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC - LEAD TO UNNECESSARY SUFFERING AND DEATH FOR MILLIONS OF PEOPLE WORLDWIDE. WE LAUNCHED OUR PARTICIPATORY CHANGEMAKING MODEL TO GENERATE NEW SOLUTIONS: BRINGING PEOPLE TOGETHER WHO ARE IDEOLOGICALLY, GEOGRAPHICALLY, AND SECTORALLY DIVERSE TO DISCUSS AND SHAPE THE FUTURE OF MEDICINES, STARTING WITH THE PATENT SYSTEM.
