1. CAMPAIGN TO END DEATH BY INCARCERATION: THIS PROGRAM AIMS TO FIND AVENUES FOR PEOPLE SENTENCED TO LIFE WITHOUT PAROLE IN PENNSYLVANIA TO RETURN TO THEIR COMMUNITIES. THROUGH THIS PROGRAM, WE EDUCATED THE PUBLIC ABOUT THE PA BOARD OF PARDONS, HELD PUBLIC OFFICIALS ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ROLE IN LIFE AND LONG TERM SENTENCES, PROVIDED TECHNICAL AND SUPPORTIVE ASSISTANCE TO INCARCERATED PEOPLE AND THEIR FAMILIES IN APPLYING FOR COMMUTATION, AND FILED LAWSUITS ON BEHALF OF LIFE-SENTENCED INDIVIDUALS TO FINE A PATHWAY HOME.2. SHIFTING THE NARRATIVE AROUND CRIME AND POLICING: THIS PROGRAM AIMS TO SHIFT THE POPULAR NARRATIVE AROUND CRIME AND VIOLENCE IN PHILADELPHIA AND QUESTION THE ROLE OF POLICING AS A RESPONSE TO VIOLENCE IN OUR COMMUNITIES. THROUGH THIS PROGRAM, WE CREATED VISUAL AND AUDIO MEDIA TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ON ALTERNATIVE RESPONSES TO HARM, HELPED SHAPE CONCRETE POLICY DEMANDS TO THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA IN RESPONSE TO THE MURDER OF GEORGE FLOYD AND THE SUBSEQUENT UPRISINGS, CONDUCTED RESEARCH ON PHILADELPHIANS' IDEA OF PUBLIC SAFETY, AND DEVELOPED PROPOSALS FOR ALTERNATIVE RESPONSES. 3. COVID-19 IN PRISONS AND JAILS RESPONSE: THIS PROGRAM WAS AN EMERGENCY RESPONSE TO THE IMPACT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC ON THE VULNERABLE POPULATIONS OF PRISONS, JAILS AND DETENTION CENTERS IN PENNSYLVANIA. THROUGH THIS PROGRAM, WE ALERTED OFFICIALS AND EDUCATED THE PUBLIC ABOUT THE EXACERBATED RISK OF DISEASE SPREAD IN CONGREGATE CARCERAL SETTINGS AND THE NEED TO REDUCE THE PRISON POPULATION IN ORDER TO REDUCE THE IMPACT TO COMMUNITIES. THIS INCLUDED TRACKING THE ACTIVITY OF THE FIRST JUDICIAL DISTRICT IN PHILADELPHIA ON EMERGENCY RELEASES FROM JAILS, AS WELL AS TRACKING THE INFECTION RATE IN STATE PRISONS.
