PROSPECT NEW ORLEANS IS A CITYWIDE CONTEMPORARY ART TRIENNIAL. EVERY THREE YEARS, WE BRING NEW ART TO AN OLD CITY BY INVITING ARTISTS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD TO CREATE PROJECTS IN A WIDE VARIETY OF VENUES SPREAD THROUGHOUT NEW ORLEANS. EACH ITERATION OF PROSPECT IS ORGANIZED BY A LEADING VOICE IN THE CURATORIAL FIELD. FOR RESIDENTS AND VISITORS ALIKE, PROSPECT IS AN INVITATION TO EXPERIENCE THE CITY THROUGH THE EYES OF ARTISTS.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
PROSPECT.5: YESTERDAY WE SAID TOMORROW IS THE FIFTH EDITION OF PROSPECT NEW ORLEANS, A CITYWIDE ART EXHIBITION. INSPIRED BY NEW ORLEANS JAZZ MUSICIAN CHRISTIAN SCOTT ATUNDE ADJUAHS 2010 ALBUM YESTERDAY YOU SAID TOMORROW, THE TITLE OF THE EXHIBITION CENTERS THE UNSPOKEN PRESENT, THE PLACE WHERE PAST AND FUTURE COME TOGETHER, AND WHERE OTHER COURSES OF ACTION BECOME POSSIBLE. THE EXHIBITION TITLE ALSO IMPLIES THE DEFERRAL OF MEANINGFUL CHANGE, WHICH OFTEN COMES SLOWLY OR NOT AT ALL. THE ARTISTS AND IDEAS THAT DEFINE THIS EXHIBITION CONFRONT THIS TRUTH, AND THE STARK REALITIES OF HISTORY, BUT ALSO SUGGEST THAT WE MIGHT YET PLOT A DIFFERENT FUTURE.
ARTISTS OF PUBLIC MEMORY: ARTISTS OF PUBLIC MEMORY IS A NEW PUBLIC ART COMMISSION THAT INVITES LOUISIANA ARTISTS TO SHARE THEIR VISIONS OF HOW MONUMENTS AND COLLECTIVE MEMORIES CAN APPEAR AND FUNCTION IN OUR LANDSCAPE, SOCIETY, AND PUBLIC SPACE. THIS INITIATIVE MARKS THE FIRST TIME PROSPECT HAS INVITED LOUISIANA-BASED CURATORS AND CULTURAL ORGANIZATIONS TO NOMINATE ARTISTS FOR A PUBLIC ART COMMISSION. DISTINCT FROM PROSPECT.6, WHICH IS SCHEDULED TO OPEN IN FALL 2024, ARTISTS OF PUBLIC MEMORY REPRESENTS A KEY PART OF PROSPECTS COMMITMENT TO HAVING A BROADER PRESENCE IN NEW ORLEANS THAT EXTENDS BEYOND THE PARAMETERS OF THE TRIENNIAL EXHIBITION.
