TO RAISE AWARENESS IN THE GREATER PHOENIX JEWISH COMMUNITY REGARDING JEWISH GENETIC DISEASES AND TO MAKE AVAILABLE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES AND AFFORDABLE CARRIER TESTING.

THE MINKOFF CENTER FOR JEWISH GENETICS EDUCATED OVER 1,500 PEOPLE IN 2022 WITH ONLINE OFFERINGS. WE HELD 6 WEBINARS THAT EDUCATED PARTICIPANTS ON THE IMPORTANCE OF GENETIC TESTING. DURING 2022 WE PROVIDED FREE GENETIC COUNSELING TO SEVERAL HUNDRED PARTICIPANTS. SOME OF THOSE PARTICIPANTS WENT ON TO GET TESTED FOR GENETIC MUTATIONS UTILIZING OUR CENTERS LABORATORY PARTNERS. WE CONTINUE TO PROVIDE EITHER FREE OR HIGHLY SUBSIDIZED TESTING FOR GENETIC MUTATIONS. TESTING IS DIVIDED INTO TWO TYPES. RECESSIVE GENES MUTATIONS THAT IS SPECIFICALLY FOR COUPLES INTENDING TO HAVE CHILDREN- WHICH REQUIRES BOTH PARENTS TO HAVE THE SAME MUTATION TO HAVE A RISK OF AFFECTED OFFSPRING. ADDITIONALLY, WE OFFER HEREDITARY CANCER SCREENING FOR THOSE WITH A HISTORY OR CANCER OR ANCESTRY THAT HAS A HIGHER PROPENSITY TO FOR GENETIC MUTATIONS.
