THE FOUNDATION ADMINISTERED ACTIVITIES RELATED TO RENDERING CARE TO THE SICK AND INJURED OR IN THE PROMOTION OF HEALTH, COOPERATED WITH OTHER PUBLIC AND PRIVATE INSTITUTIONS AND AGENCIES ENGAGED IN PROVIDING HOSPITAL AND OTHER HEALTH CARE SERVICES TO RESIDENTS OF THE DISTRICT, AND PARTICIPATED IN ACTIVITIES DESIGNED AND CONDUCTED TO PROMOTE THE GENERAL HEALTH OF THE COMMUNITY. THE FOUNDATION'S AREA OF SERVICE INCLUDED THE FOLLOWING EIGHT NORTHEASTERN LOUISIANA PARISHES: CALDWELL, FRANKLIN, JACKSON, LINCOLN, MOREHOUSE, OUACHITA, RICHLAND AND UNION.

DUE TO THE ONGOING IMPACT FROM THE PANDEMIC, THE FOUNDATION HELD A SPECIAL GRANT CYCLE 2021 TO PROVIDE FUNDS TO QUALIFIED ORGANIZATIONS IN NORTHEAST LA, EARLIER THAN A TYPICAL GRANT CYCLE. AWARDS TOTALED 274,000 FOR FOCUSED RECOVERY NEEDS, INCLUDING MEDICAL, DENTAL, AND BEHAVIORAL HEALTH PROJECTS. IN ADDITION, THE FOUNDATION AWARDED 12,500 FOR AUTISM SERVICES IN A SPECIAL PROJECT FUNDING TO CONTINUE MUCH-NEEDED SERVICES THROUGH A FEDERALLY-FUNDED MEDICAL CLINIC, IN COLLABORATION WITH THE ULM SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY, FOR THOSE MOST AT-RISK AND WITHOUT ACCESS OR RESOURCES, ESPECIALLY CHILDREN.


WITHIN THE SCOPE OF ITS MISSION AND VISION, THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS SOMETIMES APPROVES FUNDING FOR SPECIFIC INITIATIVES, OUTSIDE THE NORMAL GRANT-MAKING CYCLE, TO SERVICE IDENTIFIED AREAS OF NEED WHICH HAVE ONGOING GAPS. DURING 2021, THE DENTAL HYGIENE INITIATIVE WAS AGAIN FUNDED TO PROVIDE DENTAL HYGIENE SERVICES BOTH IN A SCHOOL-BASED CLINIC AND A MOBILE UNIT TO TYPICALLY ASSIST THOSE WHO ARE NEEDY, WHO HAVE LESS ACCESS, WHO ARE UNDER- OR UN-INSURED, AND WHO CAN BENEFIT THROUGH THESE MODELS OF DELIVERY OF CARE, ESPECIALLY CHILDREN.


DURING 2021, THE FOUNDATION RECEIVED A STATE GRANT TO ADMINISTER DENTAL SEALANTS TO CHILDREN AGES 6-17 ON SCHOOL CAMPUSES. THE FOUNDATION UTILIZED THIRD-PARTY VENDORS THROUGH A SPECIAL FUNDING AGREEMENT TO ACCOMPLISH THE GOALS OF THE PROJECT THROUGHOUT MULTIPLE PARISHES IN NORTHEAST LA IN SCHOOL-BASED AND MOBILE DENTAL CLINICS.
