THE VERONA COMMUNITY FOOD PANTRY (VCFP) IS A NON-PROFIT, 501C3, ESTABLISHED TO PROVIDE FOOD FOR INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES WITH INCOMES DEFINED AS BELOW THE POVERTY LINE BY THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE (USDA). THE VCFP MISSION IS TO PROVIDE FOOD TO THE NEEDY WHO CURRENTLY ARE AT RISK OF BECOMING FOOD INSECURE; MEANING INDIVIDUALS OR HOUSEHOLDS THAT DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO FOOD SUFFICIENT TO LIVE A HEALTHY, ACTIVE LIFESTYLE DUE TO FINANCIAL OR OTHER CONSTRAINTS. THE VCFP JURISDICTION IS TO THE CITIES OF STAUNTON AND WAYNESBORO AND AUGUSTA COUNTY. ALL FOOD IS PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE TO PATRONS OF THE VCFP FOR THE FOOD AND OTHER ITEMS RECEIVED. SOURCES OF FOOD FOR DISTRIBUTION ARE FROM AND NOT LIMITED TO FOOD PURCHASES AND DONATIONS: - PURCHASES MADE BY VCFP FROM THE BLUE RIDGE AREA FOOD BANK (BRAFB) AND LOCAL VENDORS. - DONATIONS FROM LOCAL MERCHANTS AND MANUFACTURERS, USDA PROGRAMS, AS WELL AS DONATIONS FROM CHURCHES, CIVIC CLUBS, ORGANIZATIONS, AND INDIVIDUALS. - GRANTS, UNRESTRICTED, FROM COMMUNITY GROUPS AND FOUNDATIONS AND THE BRAFB DURING 2021, THE VCFP SERVED A TOTAL 10,623 INDIVIDUALS ANNUALLY; REPRESENTING AN AVERAGE OF 384 HOUSEHOLDS PROVIDED FOR MONTHLY (4,608 HOUSEHOLDS ANNUALLY). IT IS ESTIMATED THAT EACH HOUSEHOLD RECEIVED 242.02 OF GROCERIES PER VISIT AMOUNTING TO AN ESTIMATED 1,115,247 IN FOOD DISTRIBUTED TO HOUSEHOLDS PER ANNUM.
