SOUTHERN EYE INSTITUTE HELPED ESTABLISH A FULL-TIME PERMANENT EYE CLINIC IN SIERRA LEONE, WEST AFRICA. SUPPORTED 100% BY SOUTHERN EYE INSTITUTE, THIS FREE CLINIC TREATS THOUSANDS OF PATIENTS EACH YEAR. THE CLINIC PROVIDES DIAGNOSTICS, MEDICINES AND GLASSES ON A DAILY BASIS AND EYE SURGERY ON A PERIODIC BASIS. APPROXIMATELY 800 CATARACT PROCEDURES WERE PERFORMED THIS YEAR AND APPROXIMATELY 12,000 PATIENTS WERE TREATED IN THE CLINIC. APPROXIMATELY 40 DOCTORS ATTEND THE MONTHLY EVENT. FINALLY, SOUTHER EYE INSTITUTE SUPPORTS COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS IN SIERRA LEONE SUCH AS WATER WELLS, FEEDING PROGRAMS, EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS, COMPUTER CENTER, SPORTS ACTIVITIES AND CULTURAL EVENTS."
