THE CHILDREN'S MUSEUM OF SONOMA COUNTY, FOUNDED IN 2005 OUT OF THE BACK OF A MINIVAN, IS NOW A WORLD-RENOWNED PLACE WHERE CHILDREN AND THEIR CAREGIVERS CAN EXPLORE AND LEARN IN A "HANDS-ON" ENVIRONMENT. THE PERMANENT MUSEUM, LOCATED IN +/- 50,000 SQUARE FEET OF INDOOR AND OUTDOOR SPACE, WAS OPENED IN 2014 AFTER AN $8.3 MILLION CAPITAL CAMPAIGN. SINCE OPENING ITS PHYSICAL DOORS, THE MUSEUM HAS WELCOMED MORE THAN 700,000 VISITORS. ACCESS PROGRAMS WERE LAUNCHED EARLY ON TO DISTRIBUTE FREE MEMBERSHIPS AND DISCOUNTED OR FREE DAILY ADMISSION TO LOW-INCOME FAMILIES. THE MUSEUM CONTINUES TO BUILD NEW INTERACTIVE EXHIBITS AND PROGRAMS FOCUSED ON THE ARTS, SCIENCE, AND NATURE, CUSTOM DESIGNED FOR CHILDREN AGED TEN YEARS AND YOUNGER.CMOSC'S PERMANENT CAMPUS CONTINUES TO EXPAND ITS IMPACT AND OUTREACH. CURRENTLY IT IS IN THE QUIET PHASE OF A 1.3-ACRE OUTDOOR EXPANSION THAT IS GEARED TOWARDS CHILDREN 8-12 YEARS OLD. ALTHOUGH CLOSED FOR FIFTEEN MONTHS DURING FY20-21 DUE TO THE WORLDWIDE PANDEMIC, CMOSC EXPANDED ITS ONLINE PROGRAMS AND CREATED AT-HOME SCIENCE, ART, AND NATURE KITS. THESE WERE DISTRIBUTED TO SCHOOL STUDENTS THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS WITH LOCAL SCHOOLS AND THE SONOMA COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION. IT SUCCESSFULLY REOPENED ITS DOORS TO THE PUBLIC IN JUNE 2021 AND HAS RETURNED TO PRE-PANDEMIC HOURS OF OPERATIONS. VISITATION LEVELS HAVE BEEN CONSISTENT AND ARE RETURNING TO PRE-PANDEMIC LEVELS AS WELL. RECENTLY, THE MUSEUM PARTNERED WITH PROVIDENCE HOSPITAL IN BRINGING THEIR MOBILE CLINIC TO THE MUSEUM TWICE A MONTH FOR FREE CHECK-UPS AND REFERRALS.
