CAT'S CRADLE SEEKS TO ENSURE AND MAINTAIN A SAFE, COMPASSIONATE COMMUNITY FOR CATS IN THE SHENANDOAH VALLEY. WE DO THIS THROUGH PROGRAMS THAT WILL HELP DECREASE THE INTAKE OF CATS AT LOCAL SHELTERS AND END EUTHANASIA.

ADOPTION PROGRAM - 450 CATS WERE ADOPTED IN 2021, AVERAGING 37 CATS PER MONTH. CATS WERE ADOPTED FROM OUR LOCAL PETSMART STORE ADOPTION CENTER AS WELL AS THROUGH PROMOTION ON OUR INTERNET ADOPTION SITE. ALL CATS WERE ALTERED, TESTED, VACCINATED AND TREATED FOR PARASITES PRIOR TO ADOPTION. MANY OF THESE CATS CAME TO US INJURED OR ILL REQUIRING ADDITIONAL VETTING EXPENDITURES TO READY FOR ADOPTION. CATS WERE TAKEN IN FROM AREA SHELTER ORGANIZATIONS. IN ADDITION, 87 CATS WERE TRANSPORTED FOR ADOPTION TO OUR NO-KILL SHELTER PARTNER, THE BRANDYWINE VALLEY SPCA IN PENNSYLVANIA. CONTRIBUTED VETERINARY SERVICES IN THE FORM OF DISCOUNTS TOTALED 5,338.02.
COMMUNITY SUPPORT-THIS PROGRAM INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING ACTIVITIES: SPAY/NEUTER (SN) AND MEDICAL ASSISTANCE (MA). 2,884 CATS WER ALTERED DURING THE YEAR, OF WHICH 700 WERE TRAP, NEUTER & RETURN (TNR). MA IS PROVIDED TO CAT OWNERS OR CARETAKER OF STRAYS/COLONIES WITH FINANCIAL CIRCUMSTANCES THAT PREVENT THEM FROM BEING ABLE TO OBTAIN VETERINARY CARE FOR THEIR CATS, THUS PROMOTING PET RETENTION. OVER 250 FAMILIES WERE AUTHORIZED FOR MA FOR THEIR CATS IN 2021, OF WHICH 151 WERE HELPED AND CARE WAS COMPLETED. WE PARTNERED WITH VARIOUS LOCAL VETERINARY HOSPITALS AND SPAY/NEUTER CLINICS TO PROVIDE LOW COST SPAY/NEUTER AND OTHER MEDICAL SERVICES TO PET OWNERS AND CARETAKERS IN ROCKINGHAM, PAGE AND AUGUSTA COUNTIES AS WELL AS THE CITIES OF HARRISONBURG, STAUNTON AND WAYNESBORO. SERVICES INCLUDED TRANSPORTATION, TRAPPING AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE-OR ANY COMBINATION THEREOF-DEPENDING ON THE CLIENT NEEDS. MOST PEOPLE PROVIDED SOME LEVEL OF COPAY. CONTRIBUTED VETERINARY SERVICES IN THE FORM OF DISCOUNTS TOTALED 2,554.92.
