THE ORGANIZATION SERVED AND TOUCHED THE LIVES OF MORE THAN 500 YOUTH. DURING THIS REPORTING PERIOD, STOP THE MADNESS OPERATED ITS SCHOOL- BASED MENTORING PROGRAM TITLED, "HE MATTERS/SHE MATTERS," SERVING 7TH AND 8TH GRADE YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN IN SEVERAL OF HAMILTON COUNTY'S LOWEST- PERFORMING SCHOOLS. THE STUDENTS WERE IDENTIFIED BASED ON HIGH-RISK FACTORS OF POOR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE, ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOR, POOR ATTENDANCE AND HIGH SUSPENSION RATES. AS A RESULT OF THE MENTORING PROGRAM, STUDENTS IMPROVED THEIR SCHOOL PERFORMANCE,SHOWED GRADE IMPROVEMENT IN LANGUAGE ARTS, IMPROVED MATH GRADE,IMPROVED SCIENCE GRADE, AND SHOWED AN IMPROVEMENT IN BEHAVIOR. IN ADDITION, PARTICIPATING IN THE PROGRAM HELPED THEM TO IDENTIFY AND BEGIN REDUCING NEGATIVE THOUGHT PATTERNS AND BEHAVIORS; DEVELOPED POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH PEERS AND ADULT MENTORS, AND DEVELOPED OR ENHANCED THEIR LIFE AND SOCIAL SKILLS. DURING 2016, THE ORGANIZATION ALSO EXPERIENCED TREMENDOUS SUCCESS THROUGH THE OPERATION OF SEVERAL AFTER-SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY-BASED PROGRAMS, AS WELL AS A SUMMER YOUTH ENRICHMENT CAMP THAT SERVED MORE THAN 100 YOUTH.
